OTR Training is nice to get your feet wet & get comfy. But your first month solo is when you will really learn. Nothing like being on your own & figuring it out.

And at this point I still haven’t been shown how to move tandems (he’s had me do the stuff in the drivers seat, but not the actual manipulations), I haven’t seen how to move the fifth wheel (again, I did the drivers seat), I don’t know how to take papers to the office/get them from the shipper...I’ve just..,driven!

Which yes is important...but it’s not EVERYTHING!

Not out of line at all.

    1. You are 100% correct. Him telling you to go off duty is wrong. Now, in the future you'll learn some tricks to extend your day if needed. But for now, f him he's wrong.

    2. Once again, you're right. He's wrong.

    3. See 2.

    4. Good. Hold your ground.

    5. This right here is a huge red flag for someone who doesn't know how to teach.

    6. Learning to back is a ##### for some people. I watched a Werner instructor "teach" a new driver how to back into a spot one night next to the hood of the 379 Peterbilt I was in. He had the new guy so twisted up, he gave up. Then I watched as the instructor took 20min screwing around trying to get into the spot.

Go take care of your family then see about giving it another shot. Good luck.

You don’t know how to take papers to the office ? All you gotta do for that is take the papers to office. Get out of truck w papers in hand and do it before he does. Take some initiative. You. dont need permission. Although he should show you this or at least go in there with you

This is what Penumbra was trying to say.

It appears the trainer is only teaching him how to drive forward (in an aggressive manner) and virtually nothing else.

Just out of curiousity is this trainer a heavy set guy who sits in the passenger seat and blabbers on the cb?

I can roll on that really good here, but I hope the trainee does not get or allow himself to be damaged by one bad trainer intend on muling him.

    I completely agree.

@Penumbra comes across as a decent guy who wants to learn but got stuck with someone who doesn't want to teach.

I really hope he sticks with it until the "training" phase is over. Once he is on his own, the learning truly begins and that's where this forum really shines. He can continue to come on here and ask all of the questions he needs in order to make sure he is doing the job correctly.

I'm not sure if that's suppose to be a compliment or sarcasm.

I'll take the high road and assume it's a compliment.
