I don't feel entitled, if the department transfer policy went by company seniority, I would only move up if the p&d driver transferring over had less company seniority than me, I don't like that system, I like the two board system, also if I elected to transfer to another terminal or a inter terminal department transfer, I would have no problem going to the bottom of the board, in my opinion it's the right thing to do, I should not be able bump other drivers who have put years into that terminal just because I have more company seniority than them.

With one list, everybody moves up when the senior guys quit, get fired, or retire, or when they add positions and have to hire more drivers.

No need. Your previous post covered it

Ok now I understand and it all clicks, I see what you are saying, if it's a one board system like what I was familiar with at Con Way, then yeah everyone moves up from retirements, firings, quits ect , I agree, it was just a matter of working your way through the extraboard and the reship bids that no one wanted, once you made your way to the main board, you could bid each year and go back and forth between linehaul and p&d if you chose too, and available spots permitting, that system wasn't bad, and yeah I could work that type of board system again if need be, I just prefer two board system at this juncture in my career.

The way we do it is with one seniority list, but two boards for drivers (and a third for dock).

If you jump boards or transfer elsewhere, you lose your seniority for a minimum of 6 months plus the time to the January bid, which theoretically could be nearly a year and a half. Also, there's a year commitment on the new board. This discourages people from bouncing around too much just for the hell of it.

The only exception is dock workers who get their CDL. Their bidding seniority starts at the time they become a driver. If they got their Class B first, that time doesn't count. They don't hit the main board until they get their Class A. That way, a 20-year dock worker will never bump a bunch of guys down because he feels like becoming a driver all of a sudden one day.

DFL is a non-union company, but all of those policies were developed by driver vote instead of by management. I guess they figured that the best way to make sure you anger the least amount of drivers is to have them vote on those kinds of rules.

Does Express and Freight have the same top rate pay scale for hourly work ? Does express pay OT ? I see all those FXF express trucks near the airport next to my house.

No, completely different pay scales. Express has a 10yr+ progression, freight does not. Freight is the better way to go.

Also, Express has a much lower starting pay and is primarily part-time work.
