Ok folks here's the deal. The company I've been leased to for several years got into a huge fight with the customer that I have been pulling for . I've been dedicated to this account the whole time . We may not be hauling anything else for them ,that's really still up in the air. The customer has told me they would be happy to use me if I get my own authority and pull loads for them. Would it be unethical to to go on my own and pull those loads? Is that stealing a client from my current employer or just an opportunity I shouldn't pass up?

Unless there is something in your contract that specifically states you cant then I dont see hiw it can be considered unethical...

Its not against the law to take sonething out of your neighbors trash... Your company is throwing this client in the trash. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Thanks Cattleman. I don't remember signing any non compete agreement when I leased on. I am going to see an attorney tomorrow and have him look over my lease agreement .

Nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, but you most certainly won't make any friends with your old company. Before you take the leap, which sounds ok, I'd make sure I knew what the "big fight" was about.

I’d try and find out what the issue is with your current employer. Maybe that company is doing something you don’t want to be involved with.

But if it’s all good then I would take the opportunity presented to you. You didn’t go in there trying to backdoor your current company. But there is always that chance your old company could come back in, then you’d be out.

I know what it was about. Sorry guys but I can't discuss it here. Well not right now anyway. Let's just say it's stupid stuff. Things I have had to deal with ever since I was put on the account. It's just part of doing business with them.

then if it's stupid stuff to your employer and you are aware of it, remember that if you take over, it'll be YOUR stupid stuff to deal with..what is your "aggravation level"...???

maybe not such a good idea after all..????

I've been putting up with it for several years now I suppose I can for a while longer. If the lawyer gives me the green light tomorrow ,I think I'm going to go for it. Everyone has given some good sound advice . I thank you all.

If you “somehow” lose that contract, what would happen to your business?

I don't intend on that being my only customer. Starting out it will be, and if lost it would be a problem.
