I know I'm an idiot but I have a DUI/DWAI question

I am 47 originally from NY. I have a DUI from 98 and a driving while ability impaired from 2009. In NY the DWAI is given when the bac is under the legal limit but they think you are still impaired. I don't really drink anymore because obviously I just don't make smart decisions when I do. I have one other moving violation that is very recent on my MVR. I was driving an unfamiliar personal vehicle with oversized tires and got clocked at 17 MPH over (I was late and I know that is a stupid reason). Other than that my MVR is clean. I am set to start a CDL course in two weeks. I'm trying to get a CDL because I want to change my life. I'm sick of being a screw up and my wife deserves better. I have been doing odd jobs and the like for a decade and a half. Will anyone hire me to drive anything or am I doomed to mowing lawns, digging ditches and cleaning apts until I give up the ghost? I've moved across the country and now live in Colorado I have also changed my name to try to get a fresh start but I don't really want to lie. Besides I'm sure they will find my old name and MVR if they bother to try.

Please don't bother to tell me I'm an idiot because I'm already aware.

If this was all non CDL driving the only problem I see is the 17mph speeding, depending on how recent it was. If over 2 years old I think you should be ok for CDL training.

If you have any trouble landing a job, just keep changing your name until you get one. lol

I would think you should be able to get some sort of driving job, with the speeding ticket. How recent is it? It will narrow your options some though, the dui and dwai, are old enough that they will not count against you, except for companies that would want you to be able to run into Canada.

This is why the cdl schools need more regulations.

Sorry OP, give it a few more years.

Your past will limit your options but I think you will find a company that will hire you. However, you have to walk the line from now on.

Ray Martinez didn't let a DUI slow him down, and now he's the head of the FMCSA.
