I've noticed that a lot of carriers offering jobs right out of school are forcing Teams. I get the idea that you have to prove yourself and I know I'll appreciate having someone by my side if something goes wrong but doesn't that mean my paycheck will suffer? I heard that Teams are loved because they get the shipment delivered in half the time as the truck is moving virtually twenty-four hours. I'm not sure how this works but I can't see someone paying double the money to get the product in half the time. I know my pay will be on the lower end during Training but my understanding is that it's not much better afterwards. Doesn't that also mean that I'm forced to stay with them twenty-four hours a day? I have no issues teaming with someone but I'm thinking maybe Local. I'm not too sure about OTR for an undisclosed amount of time. The way things are portrayed I could be in Team for a month to six months to a year, depending and they're saying that I'd actually prefer to be with them longer. I get that it would be nice to have someone by my side as I said but I can't see myself making something like $6-700/wk which would be $500/wk once taxes and benefits are taken out for a year. I could do that for a short period of time but I was hoping to make more than that within a few months. I'm sure I'm not the only one who left my previous job because I was unhappy with the pay and way I was treated by my employer. Being forced to be with someone for twenty-four hours and getting paid that little for so long doesn't sound so good. Have I been misinformed?

Teams can be ok. You're paid mileage for all miles you drive and all mileage your team mate drivers.
Sometimes Leonard's Express hires new cdl grads to run teams to California and back.
They hire Delaware drivers.

I hated Teaming , can't get decent sleep banging down the road on our brand new highways.

Lily Transportation runs teams out of your area. Some of those runs are to California.

Paid for all miles driven by both drivers, but at half the solo rate. It evens out.
A solo driver that runs 2500 miles per week makes the same as each team driver that drives 5000 combined.
And someone on that team is going to be driving more miles each week than the other.
As a solo driver you have the truck all to yourself, instead of having to share that dinky space.
As a solo driver you only compete with yourself for the miles you run.
As a solo driver there are no fights in the truck about stupid little things.
As a solo driver you call the shots about your home times.
As a solo driver you won't have to try to sleep in a bouncing truck, trusting your life to another persons ability or alertness.
When I was in school the only reason I chose Swift was because they did not require me to team with anyone, after training that is.
Not all companies require team driving. And I would not do it for twice the money, or any amount of money.Concorde, MidwestResident, Merilin and 3 others Thank this. -
Chinatown doesn't seem to get that the OP does not want to run as a team.

Merilin; did you say you don't want to team? That's not the way I interpret your long post about teaming.
Lepton1 Thanks this.
