Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a new poster, but have been searching your site for quite some time. I will be retiring from the Marine Corps soon and would like to get into the trucking business. The family will be planting roots in Sneads Ferry, NC. I grew up farming in South Georgia pulling different types of trailers and equipment, as well as driving large vehicles and towing aircraft while in the military. Both of my brothers and my dad have been/still are in the business, so you could say it's in my blood. CDL school will be taken care of by one of the programs offered to transitioning service members, so I would not need a company school. I would prefer to stay local/regional and haul ag products using hoppers, dumps or belt trailers. I would also like to get my own truck, but have no problem with leasing on with someone for the first few years. Any mentorship and advice would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.

Generally you will run solo a few years get the lay of the Land and seasons. Winter is coming. Then after you have saved up a large fortune you can make a small fortune running on your own. =)

I should have added that I would love to talk to anyone in the Eastern NC area that could provide some mentorship to a new guy. Thanks again.

Just remember. In the military you got paid for doing your work. In civi life endentured servitude is alive and well.
