I wonder how company drivers can say they make good money when most of the companies out there are paying them between 18 and 40 cents per mile.
lets say they pay someone 37cpm and that someone can get to drive 10000 miles a month, that would be 44.400 a year BEFORE TAXES . after taxes could be something around 39k - 40k maybe even less.....
so I ask ... is something between 39k and 40k considered good money ????? ... especially after spending only 5 or 6 days at home per month and the rest of the days on the road ?????
maybe its just me but i think that truckers play a very important role in this world, they put their lives on the line out there every day, and they should have much better rewards.
they should make at least 50k a year for god's sake. well .... that's my humble opinion ... maybe Im missing something here, maybe they make more than what think, i dont know ... i sure hope so tho
How do company drivers make good money ???

In some areas that is really good wages. BTW a driver gets a tax break/deduction on anything that is bought for work usage. Most OTR drivers are home for 3-4 days a month. Also many have small fridges and can take some food with them. Some have grills and/or a mircowave and cook in/around the truck. That is a money saver.

I'd like to see more money. But it's not always about the money. Well, yes it is. But we all have differant requirements.
My wife says they could pay me $2 a mile as a company driver. And I would be b##### because I didn't get 10k miles last month. You do the math
And your 5 or 6 days off a month.... That ain't happening to an OTR driver.
I'll be lucky to break 40k this year. But I'm happy, content, and comfortable. And I've made much more in the past. -
Well, with some experience under your belt you can get a company job that pays well. I am home everyday and make 70,000 a year. I make .53 cent a mile and 21.50 if I have to wait on anything. There are good paying jobs out there but drivers have to realize it takes time to get them. You can't get out of school and expect a 50,000 a year job. It's not gonna happen...

You mean a rookie can't make $70k in his first year??

Well, maybe me or you could....hehehehe....just trying not to get their hopes up too much...lol

(What you mean to tell us that the new driver will HAVE TO PROVE THEY ARE WORTH IT? To get paid the big money, they aren't just handed it staight out of school? OOzing with sarcasm) -
I'm sorry if my post sounded arrogant. I really didn't mean for it too..I was just answering a question. Experience does count in this business, like it or not....Expectations maybe need to be lowered...thats all
Wiseguywireless Thanks this. -
