Swift training school any one out here been there.

"Salary" is no where to be found in their vocabulary. That said though,

1200 miles/week average for weeks worked X 25 cents = $300.00/week gross or $15,600.00/yr. (less student loan, food, over-idling charges, and taxes of course). Once you're up to 29 cents you'll be looking at $348.00/wk or $18.096 unless you take time off.

 

Disregard windjammer...he has an attitude against Swift and can't wiat to put them or a prospective driver off the mark. Generally you can estimate averaging 24-28 hundred miles per week...assuming freight gets moving a little stronger than it is. right now one week is good, next week is iffy..you know back and forth..freight volumes are fairly hard to estimate right now..so income levels will be lower than usuall. When the economy gets going again, things will improve.

How much you take home after deductions is different for every swifty...some are getting miles some are struggling...some of it is luck and some get connections to get on a dedicated fleet so that in itself is better. I will be honest with you here...it is a hard time to get good miles regularly, and it is very hard on families trying to get by..but time will tell...this trucking is a lifestyle all to itself..some make it, some don't...all you can do is try!

Sorry I can't be any more up in this subject..but it isn't like it was 10 or 15 years ago...not at all!

 

I really do wish, OH that you could try to understand there's no attitude here. Again, it's just what I, for one, went through.....just as many others here, including yourself, have. That said, it's certainly one's prerogative to disregard. No problem with that. Just numbers.

But solos getting an average of 2400 - 2800 miles a week at this time? Really?? That means some in the 3,000's? Would be helpful to Nighthawk and Ford if someone with accurate numbers could get involved, although don't know who that would be. Just need to hear from more drivers, past and present.

 

I think everyone that has read one post from you can see you got a bad taste from swift.I have read your post and have no doubt you have a bad taste in your mouth.You have stated it more than once in this thread and many others on here.Your point of view has been made in this thread.Ford is/has been trying to put his point of view in this thread,which his started.

 

Here's an offer. I'll make this my last post in this thread. With that though, let's all get back in six months to see how things are going. If it's what everyone has been touting (2800 miles/week ave. and the like) I'll be the first to offer an apology. As an aside, last October, there were 36 students who started in our class. As best as we can figure, even talking with a couple of them today, our best guess is that there are 6 remaining in the industry. One of them is bringing home $425.00/week on a dedicated run 6 days a week. (with Swift).

And a last thought. Ford, I really do hope the enthusiasm continues and that it all works out for you.

 

1200 miles a week lol . I have never been under 2300 most of the time its 2800-3000 .

 

I have several items:

As to solo drivers, there's a great deal of variance in what I'm told by solo drivers I know. Those that are fresh off the mentor's truck are getting lower miles and it seems that with each week they're getting more. The lowest amount told to me by a solo was 1900. Now I do know a couple of people who back in Jan got lower than that.

As to teams, most teams I know that are new (like us) are pulling about what we are which is 4500 to 6000 per week. It varies due to several factors and most often due to us setting out PTA out so we can take a day off. Hey! We're old and get tired.

Secondly, concerning the "cash cow" as some of you called it: In Phoenix the school is now starting classes every other week and the number in each class is lower than it use to be. There are applicants but they're not taking as many because there isn't the turn over there use to be.

I know this because I spoke to several in admin of the school in Phoenix on Sunday.

Well if we take the lowest points from these three... Fords $.25/mile Nana pointing out lowest solo she knows of getting 1900 and Bronco saying nothing less than 2300 ... 1900@.25 is 475/wk before deductions... or Bronco's of 2300 figured at starting pay of .25 is still 575/wk... in my case even figuring getting only 475/wk gross is still more than I am making now working full time doing property maintenance on 3 properties !!!! So in my opinion for the economy the way it is and for being newbies this really isn't all that bad... it ain't great nore is it gonna get us rich anytime quick but its a bearable income

Question for NANA ... you wouldn't happen to know if the solo's getting around 1900 miles is running 48,western, Northwest or southwest by any chance would ya ? Only curious since I am looking to stay west coast and or Northwest once I get through everything and I'm sure Ford would be interested to know as well...

 

They're running a comfort zone. And that is one thing that will surely limit your miles. You see both the pick up and delivery must be in the comfort zone. We run 48 and frankly unless we're trying to get a load to a specific place (home in Phoenix) we just don't sit. We did one week in NJ where we sat for 3 days only doin short local runs but that was over a month ago. But, look..........I'm new and I only know what I experience, what I see and hear happens to others. My experience is NOT the only thing that happens at Swift. The pay is low.....but then I figure I'm also getting a chance as an inexperienced driver where I can't get that chance at a company paying higher that wants 2 years experience.

Will I stay with Swift 2 years from now? Heck I don't even know what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow so how should I know where I'll be working in 2 years? I know I like money just like everyone else.

 

I like ta hear that it is from ones that are running in a comfort zone That is what I am prefering to do even though I know that it can yeild less miles than running the 48.. (will have to work my up to that with the wifey LOL)
