Op y'all are trying to get into trucking at a really bad time. This industry is like no other. Most companies want a driver that is just smart enough to take a truck straight down the road and that's it. Because those are the ones that accept the terrible pay and dont question anything. As a company driver there's no such thing as actual seniority. A driver is a driver. A guy with 10yrs behind the wheel and a guy with 1 year can drive a truck down road and back it into a dock.

There is still money to be made in this industry, but those jobs are hard to come by any more. I have a pretty cush job, but because of bad rates, my pay has fallen off lately. Im not one to just sit around and accept it, so I constantly look for something better.

As for a "part time" driving job, finding one is gonna be #### hard. Trucking isnt part time. While its a job, its a lifestyle too. At least otr and even regional are. You'll spend the majority of your entire day and night in that truck.

If you're wife is determined to run truck, dont F around with some run or the mill, low paying mega co. Figure out the more specialized stuff and go for that. Run hard and get the experience, that will open the door for her, and you as well if you decide to get your cdl. Let her get that year of experience 1st though. It'll be well worth it in the long run, if she excells then her experience will help you. If she hates it then, you be happy you didnt take the plunge as well.

Sorry about the X1Heavy'esque post. Lol

1st year or 2 can be tough. The only industry with such a high turnover rate.
