Actually Saia doesn't use red tags, I threw that in there as part of the issue, some drivers will write a note and leave it as a courtesy to the next driver, we enter the defect in the DVIR section in Vnomics (our version of Qualcomm,Peoplenet, ect) from there the equipment is placed out of service automatically, and information is sent to the companies computer system that the shops and dispatch can see, problem is it only works if the driver actually does it.

That’s better than the current FedEx system, where a driver will write up a defect in the edvir, and nobody knows about it unless they actually pull up the edvir and look for it. You have to separately tell someone to deadline it in a different system, and not everyone does that (looking at the city driver who uses my bid tractor during the day...).

The pendulum swings a couple ways, I've told supervisors to deadline stuff and they flat out forget to do it. Point in case, around February (BEFORE the EDVIR and ELD conversion) I discovered an inside tire on a rail container was flat when doing a post trip. Don't know how it didn't blow, but not complaining that it didn't. Bring my paperwork into the office, tell them about it, and figure all is right in the world. Come into work the next day, get dispatched with the same rail, with the same flat tire.

Last week was pretty standard for me. Less miles and more dock work compared to the previous week, but I'm still getting home before 0600. Most of the delay hours was from spending some quality time in the shop, and I think I also had some run-time delay due to traffic.

Finally passed $70k for the year. Judging by the current trajectory I'll finish the year off around $93k, which is short of my initial $100k year goal, but still nothing to sneeze at for being on the linehaul board for one year, in the company for a year and 3 months and trucking for less than 2 years. (at that point).

You'll notice the line for 6 pieces of "Trctr Only". This is used when pulling anything that is not a set or bobtailing, used in place of a drop or hook and is equivalent to .25 hour as opposed to .5 hour. One night I went to the hub with a rail because the other driver ahead of me had an issue with his tractor and the 5th wheel slider piston would not pop out the piston. As a result, the office forced his hook down to me because my truck had no such issue moving the 5th wheel and I was going to make the gate time (which is earlier than my run), just another reason to keep your tractor well maintained at all times. The other driver was quite pissed about it because it meant he had to wait another 30 minutes or so for his trailers to be wrapped up by the center.

Then, there were two meets that I ran toward the end of the week. You would use the same task when dropping a complete set to swap with another driver. The meet run is a gravy run, don't get me wrong, but the craziness of going to NJ should get the drop and hook anyway if you ask me lol.

Center is currently doing a rebid in the absence of a driver out for a long period of time on medical leave. Should know tonight what my options are, whatever they are, they will be the last of any possible lane they could be. I wish my center would fill the open spots underneath me before I have my next birthday!

You are blowing me away; It is unlikely i will be able to catch up by dec.

See? THIS is why we post our checks----to get specific, detailed, illustrations of what one might make with
    a given company/situation.

Anyone who says, "My company pays such and such, do the math" is an a-hole.

Actually, we don't have a set procedure either. We do have red tags, but no instruction or set procedure to use them. i use them because i figure it would be the best way that i know of for now.

It's just one of the many inefficiencies we have.

Got my tuition reimbursement check in the mail yesterday for the last semester of schooling I took before the summer. Just plugging away at my Master's every night for an hour or so before I take a nap. It's not a bad little setup, I take a student loan for the coursework for the semester, and once the reimbursement comes in, pay the loan in full with FXFs money. Maybe another 2 years before I finish the Master's but don't care, it's not on my dime whatsoever.

Nothing. I left an executive level position at a Fortune 50 company to drive a truck. I’m happier, healthier, weigh less, am stress free, practically reduced alcohol intake to zero and am a better family man as a result of this industry.

That being said, my grandfather always told me an education is something no one can take away from me, and that’s all it really is to me.
