The way i have come to understand "barefoot" is a radio no matter its power is unaided by any sorta additional power of an amp..
I suppose we could call the ssb's n such and tuned up radios as "modified barefoot"..
Fine Tune prices?

Barefoot means no amp.
But ham radio operators use the term too often, -
If you go through life with that assumption nobody could possibly take advantage of you. -
Heck I agree that barefoot means no amp. CB folks used to know what you meant by "barefoot" before exports became mainstream. Now the term is less meaningful
If a guy called his 1000 watt export radio barefoot, would that be OK with everybody? -
Well tim..If he has a 1000 watts and wants to call it bare foot..Who am i to dispute or care...
I ran with a guy who had a sweet 16 and a predator 30k...Lost him after about 10 mile...Others said the same, could hear me easily but he was weak as heck..In that case his wasnt barefoot but it sucked dog butt and mine ill call a modified barefoot..rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
Not once did I hear Fine Tune disclose to his contact that his "barefoot" AT6666 was pushing lots of extra watts. That's misleading if you ask me. On the other hand, maybe he didnt want to publicly declare that he was breaking federal law -
Oh god..dont be doin that mr legal bs..
To my knowledge mark is not overly fond of amps anymore..Atleast thats what he said to me once..That was about a yr or two ago..
Just like anyone else if he says no amo we gotta takem at his word..
Either way my modified barefooted 955 does just fine for my needs....Not to say i cant improve my antenna set up some more.. -
rabbiporkchop and Timin770 Thank this.

Cause the n4 is a 400+ watt radio lol..As far as im concered there is no seperate amp so its barefoot..
Hell i dont know why this is an issue than anyo e is gonna bicker about....
Another car example..lol....A 5 liter mustang from early 80's was roughly 150ish hp bone stock..Today they are as high as 1000 hp direct from shelby..
Still a mustang just modified..Same as export radio vs a basic cobra or uniden..
Anyways i think its a foolish discussion.. -
Actually the n4 is a radio with built in amp. I think you are being dishonest to claim it is a "barefoot" radio. Without the amp, it's not capable of 400 watts.
Night Stalker10 and Timin770 Thank this.
