It's all over the place as far as rates. I'm sitting in LA with my truck in the shop and I'm see loads going up in price as I st here. One was $1.44cpm and it just went to$1.57cpm. Not great but going in the right direction.
-
Does it seem like the number of loads have gotten any better since last month? Are there more good loads posted or is it still pretty weak freight?
-
$1.57 X 65% = $1.02 Their trailer
$1.57 X 72% = $1.13 Your trailer
Not great by any means, but as you said, at least going up. -
IMHO you need more than a good phone and laptop right now with Landstar. The rates are the lowest I've ever seen here. The agents are more dishonest than i've ever incountered.
8 of my Landstar buddies have quit since Febuary.
I've been at home for almost a month now because I refuse to haul that heavy cheap frieght that they are posting.
If someone can make money off of $1.32 which is what I'm seeing right now, then more power to you.
At those rates I can make more money working locally so that's what I'm doing until it picks up.
But it doesn't even look like it's picking up. I don't think that the days of bringing home 4k per week will be back soon if ever.
I'd not recomend Landstar to anyone right now, mostly because the agents that were paying well have told me that LS is having other agents undercut them. But it's been that way for years here at LS.
LS like any other trucking company has to control more to keep more when freight slows. They are making the drivers pay more for it right now than the agents. And in my opinion LS and the agent should be giving more back to the driver because the cost is mostly on the driver.
Anyways. If your making money where you're at, stay there for now. If not come on over and haul for cheap. Have new tires and a great running truck. -
You can't find a load for more than $1.32? What part of the country are you in? My lowest paying load in the last two weeks was $1.98. -
I guess you read into my post instead of reading it.
I was hauling for $2.99 per mile when I came home in February. Haven't seen it like that since. If you willing to only make $1.98 per mile good on you.
I'm looking to drive half the year and be at home half the year. That's what I've been doing since I signed up with LS.
Hasn't been that way this year.
If you need to drive and haul the heavy cheap freight and feel good about yourself, good on you.
But if you work the system you'll know that you shouldnt haul the cheap freight.
Then again everyone has his or her bottom line, and yours is obviously quite different than mine.
Locally hauling a Rock bucket pays way better than $1.98 per mile. An option in the tough times keeps the maintenance on your truck in the black. Not hauling someones cheap freight and putting the miles on your truck and hoping that the rates will go up or in the right direction.
Don't mislead others if youre lost. They might follow.
If drivers would quit hauling the cheap freight it wouldn't be cheap anymore.
Right now the logistic theory is just finding out what the minimum rate an O/O will haul for. It'll be years before it works it way back up.
It runs in cycles and has for as long as Ive keep track of it.
They need the O/O's to haul for cheap. Otherwise the burden of ownership would be on the logistics side of the theory.
But that's just MHO.
And I still wouldn't recommend LS to anyone right now. If I were hauling loads instead of rock and making more money I'd recommend in a heartbeat.Big Duker Thanks this. -
I quit in march this year.No more cheap freight. How come your are still with them?I was sitting home months at the time. And other O/O was pulling all the cheap loads. In 12 months I was very close to file for bankruptcy and I still didn't pull cheap freight. The I quit for good. And I'm very happy for me.I got a new lease local loads every day home.Money are OK,not the best, but OK.Loads are steady and make about $2000 a week after fuel and tolls.Lots of hours,at least 12 and some time even 16 hours, still OK.Every weekend off and every day home.Very heavy loads always, but in this eonomie.......no question ask.No more load board, just pick up the phone and voilà,I got work, every time, every day. Some loads are good, some are ######,but mix together makes my week pay. Most of the miles I drove in one week was close to 2000,but still under. In average is about 1800.Not the best place to be,but my income is steady. My truck is paid off and even in this situation,I could not make it at LS ########.LS its a place for those 60 year of age or older,or its the place for those emigrants coming in this county and destroying all the value its left over.Right now LS its hire only cheap drivers. How can you be compatible with them?

At least spell immagrant correctly, if you are going to blame them for anything.
