DOT Bible- Green book

I always thought that green book was required to be carried with you althoug mine collects dust on my shelf

 

Hehehe, read the green book to find out. I carry both the hazmat book, and the green book. If an officer says I'm violating a reg, I wanna see it in writing.

 

I generally carried a hazmat fast response, orange or yellow current year an inch thick on essentially everything for response depending on what was in the 4 digit number and diamond code.

I carried the DOT Bible (The green one) for many years. I don't recall a trip without it. I probably still have the #### thing somewhere stored.

A trucking company should never go pooh pooh it's not necessary. That brings a wrong message. If you feel you have to have it? Have at it. It might save both yourself and the Tinpot DOT much trouble when it points out a trouble issue to be settled in chapter and verse. Either your favor or DOT's favor.

And maps. Lots of maps. Plus a black notebook containing places I will never haul to or from in my lifetime. I usually engineered small bans with either well placed language or some sort of whoopsie that offends them greatly but no harm done other than to throw me out. That usually stops the dispatcher from constantly sending me back there. Alpo west in Allentown comes to mind. If I pick up another sack of Alpo it will be a cold day...

 

Other than the permit book for the truck, I don't know of any book the law/regulations REQUIRE you to have in the truck, except the HazMat book if you have HazMat freight. That doesn't mean you shouldn't carry the DOT regs, for example. You are required to comply with the regulations within the "green book" but you are not required to carry it.

 

And if you don't want to spend the money on a green book (found in most truckstops) you can go online and read it. It's only about $5, so well worth buying.

If you were required to carry it, when you were pulled over or inspected the officer would ask for license, medical card, registration and regulation book... They wouldn't pass up an EASY ticket...

Even if yer runnin' elogs. They require you to have blank backups in case the compooper shats itself
