The reviews largely don't matter. Tanker is specialized. You just need to get your foot in the door and then the better companies will open up. The thing about specialized is there are just fewer. It is what it is. Small term pain. Long term gain.

Thomas the tanker driver. He did a whole YouTube series on what it was like to be a Schneider tanker driver.

Typically I load about 3500 to 4000 gallons depends on the weight of the product, I believe it will hold 5000 gallons if not considering the weight. Most of the Acids are in the 12.00 lbs per gallon range, typically load 51,000.

I like it, just have to drive smooth, should be fun it the morning rush tomorrow, I have a load to north county San Diego.14.22lbs per gallon about 3600 gallons. I do like it alot more than the pnuematics I pulled for 20 years. except for the Hydrochloric solutions there fairly nasty.

Try Systems Transport (JJ Williams). They haul chemicals and hire newbies after orientation. Newer equipment and decent hourly starting pay. The runs I know of originate in Longview Washington and go to southern Oregon or to the north up as far up as Vancouver Canada. They also have a terminal in Spokane. They are all day runs so you're home each night.

7 years late to the party I know but that's par for my course these days lol. So here's to restarting an old crusty thread...

Howdy all, This kicks off my entrance to these forums as the ubernoober.

Here's my situation which I hope all you good experienced folk can help me with.

I completed my CDL training in October 2019 at Tri State CDL in Springfield MA and subsequently obtained my tanker+hazmat (X) endorsement plus my TWIC card and renewed my passport all in the hope of being as marketable as possible out of the gate.

Since then for the past months I have been frantically searching for a company which would give me a shot with further entry level training to no avail. Came close a couple times only to have the door shut in my face by both Superior Bulk Logistics (because my CDL school turned out to be one not on their "approved" list (they only hire out of NETTS in this area apparently) and again with WEL Companies (not tanker but a company I saw Chinatown mention as a newbie trainer) because I have been unemployed for the past 3 years and was a family caregiver for my elderly parents over the 9 years prior to that (2008-2017) and they demanded I jump through all sorts of hoops providing legal documentation that I did in fact have an inheritance to live off of suring those 3 years.

So here I am anxious to get going and wondering if there is any way I can break into the industry after shelling out $5k+change to get certified.

Recently spoke with WW Transport as per WesternPlains' suggestion in another thread and the recruiter Marissa is checking for me, but thinks I am too far north and nowhere near any of their customers or terminals (closest are Buffalo NY and Camp Hill PA both about 6-6.5 hours drive away).

Really hoping to avoid the bottom feeders as per multiple suggestions and horror stories on this forum but I have put in an application with Welfare Express flatbed division as a last option if all else fails. SWIFT has also been hounding me based on one of those online referral mini apps I filled out a while back, but the thought of SWIFT scares me more than Western does given the multiple accident videos I've seen on YouTube all involving SWIFT drivers.

Any help or references would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks!

What about Schneider Tanker? Their recruiter cane to our school and it didn’t seem any issue to apply as a newbie there.
BTW congrats on the (X). Got mine a few weeks ago but still running cranes on lowboys for a local bridge building outfit. Re that sh#thole outfit in nAshville...don’t do it.

I wouldn't rule Swift or Western out. You can work for either until you gain a few months experience, then move on.
The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to find decent jobs.
