I don't know enough about Cascadias to know if that's a good deal or not.
But, I'd have to hear a whole lot more numbers...in fact all the numbers... to know if it's really a good deal.
Just because a guy makes his truck payment, his fuel bill, and has enough left over for a hamburger at the end of the day doesn't mean he's really making money.

I know. A lot of these people who are up to their neck in the fleece purchase don’t do their homework like they should.
Right now,it’s a buyer’s market but that’s not necessarily a good thing, because the freight market is SATURATED with companies (owner/operator and megas alike) trying to get their slice of the pie of the freight market-especially in the dry van sector. We’ve seen a few owner operators selling their trucks and other equipment and at the same time some of the companies doing the same time or going belly up and being consigned to the history books! I can’t remember the last time in the past 5 years or so that I’ve seen so many companies shut down in a short time!

    Not necessarily;
These contracts are both confusing and complicated, as is by their intent.

These guys that sign them are not some goofy, flighty, reckless slobs; they’re guys that want to make a good living and they are doing their best to achieve just that. And, like most of us, they don’t have the money to hire an attorney to read between the lines.

Quit attacking guys so quickly for their mistakes; instead, go after the companies that prey upon them.
Ask yourself; have you ever...ever...signed any type of contract that you later wished that you didn’t sign?

And what if his rant helps someone in the future from making the same mistake?

Not really yours until you pay it off. It's one of the catch phrases to hook you, "it's your truck". Miss a couple of payments and it will again be "their" truck.

The main things I see when someone posts about a "bad company":

*The OP is new to the forum and it is their first post.
*The OP provides adequate detail and get criticized for either "writing a book" or not being the first one to post about the company.
*The OP post "they steal" and we all roll our eyes because that is the entire content of the post.

Most people don't even know about this forum so when they first find it, they are not aware of the many other posts on the same topic. We all get sucked into different scams in our lives. Live and learn but don't be so harsh just because you already knew it would be a problem for them. Or be harsh and make them feel bad, really, it's your choice.

That the contract is both confusing and complicated makes it all the more necessary to have an attorney read it and explain it. And "if they don't have the money" for an attorney, one has to wonder how much cash reserves they do have. Many are just making it as a company driver, with NONE of the expenses of someone leasing a truck. They keep the company driver mentality, and end up losing everything, and then sometimes more.
L/P is not a better paying company driver position, this is owning a business. Maybe a life changing decision. A decision that should include legal advice.

    Agreed.

The problem here is that these drivers are desperate; desperation here defined as insufficient cash reserves. And that situation is unlikely to change anytime soon, mainly due to the fact that if they are a company driver in the first place, their pay therefore is so poor that the drivers will remain in a desperate situation indefinately.

That is, until the drivers believe that they finally have found a way out; and the large carriers capitalize upon both the drivers’ hopes and desperation.

    Enter, the Lease Purchase Program.

Justice is expensive; attorneys charge much more for their own time than any company driver could ever match. Many of these drivers that sign up for a lease purchase are taking a desperate risk, and I’ll wager that these risks are taken much more knowingly than the rest of us may realize.
