Hello,
I have Volvo 2007 with ISX Cummins. Engine has 830k miles.
1) Engine gets hot around 200 when Ideling
2) A/c has stopped working.
Morning when I started my truck, I heard minor metal crackel sound around radiator/Fan area but that sound stopped after few minutes. I asked my mechanic over the phone and he told me Fan Clutch could be problem but when he checked fan clutch he said fan clutch is fine.
I changed my radiator few months back.
Any suggestions are appreciated

Fwiw..simple way to check your fan clutch is to try and turn the fan with your hand..engine off of course
If it turns freely it is bad.. if it’s tight then it’s good.
Not sure what you mean by “engine fan kickoff stopped” -
Thanks for your reply.
I tried the way you explained how to check if fan clutch is bad. It is not free. So fan clutch seems good.
When engine over heats and fan starts to cool down engine that is what i would say Engine fan kick-off. Well I just noticed it starts at 210. So my problem is only Over heating when ideling and a/c not working. Any guess on that? -
If you low on Freon it might do that. Check and recharge it if needed

Unless you are in Death Valley, if your truck is hitting 200 just idling, it needs to be looked at because it isn't the a/c.
KB3MMX and Snailexpress Thank this. -
Yes, engine gets around 210 when ideling in cold Michigan weather. A/c can be a separate issue but I noticed both problem at the same time.

Is the fan cycling on and off?

A/C probably doesn't work because your fan isn't pulling heat out of the condensor. Fix your fan first, then worry about the A/C.
