Some trucking companies, like Maveric, use a battery based EPU. Epu is an alternative to diesel powerd APUs. Those companies will have outdoor shore power supplies at the terminal to keep drivers parked in the yard powered & climate-controlled rather than having to start truck engines to re-charge the EPU.

Okay, so we went to Penske. At first, he couldn't figure it out either. He checked the actual APU unit to make sure it was working, he made sure it was connected, he pressed the reset button on the outlet, and he basically tried all the things I had already tried. Then he replaced the fuse in the fusebox, which he said wasn't all the way broken, but didn't look 100% either.
After that, he still couldn't get it to work, and then suggested my coffee pot was broken (which it isn't). So I got back in the truck, and hit the reset button on the outlet again (post fuse replacement), and this time the press felt effective, and I heard a loud "CLICK!" And a tiny green light came on. I plugged in my coffeepot again, and it worked! Yay!
So the great news is that I DO, in fact, have electrical power by which I can make my own coffee. The good news is that I do not need to be plugged into Shore Power in order to do so. The bad news is that I do need to have the APU on, which means the truck off... and this is still going to be a problem, because I usually stop multiple times per night to make myself coffee. All this required in our last truck was an extension cord from the under-bed outlet to the front seats, and leaving the inverter turned on. That's no longer an option. But neither is stopping several times per night to turn off the truck, come into the sleeper, turn on the APU, and make my coffee...
But at least the mystery is solved! Thanks to all for their suggestions and input. -
It's a silly little company run by non-trucking people who don't have a clue. Which is sometimes a blessing, and sometimes suuuuper frustrating! -
You can buy an inverter for under $100 That will work. My k cup draws 400 watts.

What Keurig do you have that is only 400 watts? I was super psyched to find a coffee pot that can also use K-cups, and it's only 600 watts. I've never seen one lower. -

CoveringBases Thanks this. -
Mine is Hamilton Beach, also. FlexBrew? Mine is 600 watts, though. -
