I did flat bed moving rigs, not a big fan. I know it's different though then otr flatbed. But doing that I brought home 1500 a week and was home most nights. Throwing chains all day took a toll on my old body.

I think some people misses the real point, why do otr drivers accept being treated as second class? And why accept sub par wages?
To the people that say your a ##### or deal with it, that's why it never gets better, someone voices real concern and another just adverts the poor conditions and berates the one pointing it out.Orlandodriver, BigDog Trucker, stuckinthemud and 4 others Thank this. -

I mean to be honest, I don't feel like I am treated like a 2nd class citizen out here on the road. You aren't saying anything that hadn't been said many times over in here. It would be nice to get 6 figures doing OTR but it's just not going to happen for the majority of us. To make even 70k everything would have to go right.....no inclement weather, no breakdowns, no home time, every week would be a 3000 plus mile week, we would have to make 60 cents or more a mile, it's not realistic. These companies I'm sure would love to pay more, but it isn't really possible, and with the ridiculous turnover, why should they? They pay so much money to operate, insurance, taxes, fuel, etc. Then bus loads of new drivers to orientation.....weekly. after these millions of dollars of costs, it don't really leave much to pay the driver. Then trucking has changed a lot. The days of solos running cross country isn't dead, but it's not as frequent. Some companies still do it. Many big runs go to teams or on the rail. I don't so much look at how miles a day as I look at average length of haul. That's what tells the story. Companies are going to play favorites.....now more than ever because of elogs. Real talk, if a driver cant show they know how to work it, its going to be tough for him/her to make money. They watch very close how every driver runs. On time pickups and on time deliveries mean everything in OTR trucking. Communication means everything in OTR trucking. Trip planning/adjusting means everything in OTR trucking
