Since I only pull less that 30k dry van, cruising at 65mph at 1475RPM w/18 speed trans, is just blowing my profit out the stacks.
Volvo data sheet states with a 3:36.1 rears with .74 in 18th gear, cruising should be at 1350, to me that's ideal
Have anyone did this swap and how did it turn out?
2007 Volvo VT830 D16 535HP, changing rear axles ratio from 3:55 to 3:36

If you’re running lo pro rubber, switching to tall rubber will get you pretty close and a lot cheaper.
-
If your going through the expense of changing rear ends I would go down in the 264 range. That 336 just won't make that big of a difference.

What little fuel economy you might gain vs the cost of re-gearing is most likely a waste of time. I'd just run it until a diff is ready to blow and do it then.
Socal Xpress and DUNE-T Thank this. -
What is your current fuel economy? I think the problem might be more the D16 than the rear ends. And does the truck match up to the trailer or is it a mid roof.

I'm getting 5.5 hilly, flat 6.3, I got a good deal on the truck, no issues for $23k. I didn't think much about mpg when getting it, just that I could pay for it out right. Now that I'm pulling it and seeing half my settlements going out the stacks, it becoming more of a burden than a money maker. I can get a set of rears that match the trans for $2000, then have the speedo reprogram.
It a mid roof, I order the roof wing last week, running tall tires.
Just fishing for ideals for make the more efficient.
Thanks
