Thanks for the update, I almost tried it westbound yesterday. Google showed it open. I ran up to 81 instead.
FoolsErrand and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
It would take a special set of conditions for me to run 64 to 74 again to get back to TN. Its do-able but very slow and drinks the fuel, plus youre on youre own out there if you break.
If youre south enough and timing is good, 85 toward atlanta makes more sense.. Then 53 over to the 411 or 75.
If youre north enough, 77 or 26 up and over makes more sense.
Im told 26 to 25 into the backside of newport was the old get back. Is that still an OK truck route?RubyEagle Thanks this. -

Figure ill just keep adding info to this thread. someone will find it in the future while searching some of these places.. Might be me when i forget which ones ive run! Keywords pisgah chattahoochee nantahala
There may only be one legal way i can figure to highlands NC by bigrig and that is to start on 23 in Dillard GA. Take 246 .. Turns to 106 at NC. Theres 10% climbs and switchbacks but it can be done. 64 from franklin or cashiers are both off limits now. You can use 64 in the center of town, you pretty much have to. Im unsure of 23.
64 from brevard nc to cashiers is legal but steep and twisty. Cannot take 64 beyond cashiers. you need to take 107N to sylva then 74west then down 23. No trucks past that 64/107 intersection. 107 will test you but its doable to sylva for legal loads.
74 is a good road from cleveland tn plum over to waynesville nc. Not fast but good if 40 gorge is closed for wreck or something.
23 is good road from 74 atleast to clayton GA and probably all the way down.. Pretty sure ive run that to 441 to 85. From clayton GA 76W is good atleast to blairsville. 19 is good from blairsville to 74/64 but its got more climbs than taking 515/69 just west of lake hiawassee.
53 across GA is good to stay around atlanta traffic jam. From 85 to 75.
183/52 from dawsonville (at the 53 rotary) to ellijay is good. Pronounced "ella-Jay"
76 from ellijay to 411 or to dalton is good
Note these are all very steep and narrow treacherous mountain roads by flatlander standards. Hp and gears will matter.
I dont know about:
19 south to dahlonega? It looks bad.
107 south from cashiers?
64 from murphy to franklin?
76 west of blairsville to ellijay..Good i bet
GA-60 or GA-180 in chattahoochee
129, 28 or 143 in nantahala?
28 south from highlands?
76 east from clayton?Truckermania Thanks this.
