Had a phone interview with sysco. They asked alot of questions about food service experience and how many stops I do on a daily basis. Since all my experience is otr and regional I had to tell them I had no food service experience and the fact that I only do 3 stops per day at the most. I don't think that's what they wanted to here.
I do have experience with unloading trailers but it was more than 3 years agoJmelendez1223 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Keep at it bud, you will find something. The otr thing is kinda hurting you right now but nothing that can't be overcome. I know we tend not to hire otr guys unless we are really hard up because most tend not to last because they want to just drive a truck and not do any work (not saying this is you at all just a generalization of how things work). It's kinda like how I thought I might give otr a try and literally nobody but starter companies would touch me even with 18 years accident free driving, I imagine it's the same thing...most local guys that try otr probably don't last. I honestly don't know how I would adapt to living in a truck, I've always been paid hourly so the first time I put fuel in the truck or have to scale it and don't get paid for it I'm not gonna handle it well, etc and they know that so they would rather pass because they know there is a good chance that I'll be a pain in the ### lol. Keep calling em, tell them you really wanna make the jump and you are willing to work the dock for a lil bit to show them you aren't afraid of work. You will get there.DAX_ Thanks this.

Preciate it!
So you would say the reason they are reluctant to hire OTR has more to do with they feel OTR guys won't want to do the work, rather than them just not wanting to train a newbie in food service?Cardfan89 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
100%. Food service is known for taking guys with no CDL and training them. You know how otr guys generally look at us local guys as impatient, rude, and crazy drivers. Local companies look at otr guys as lazy...it doesn't mean they all are but unloading a trailer full of 60lb boxes of pizza dough is a lot different than staring at the windshield for 11 hours a day. I'm sure you have seen it on here when guys like you ask about local work, how many times do guys chime in with "#### that, it's too much work, you are gonna kill your body, I tried that years ago and quit" etc.

Ok coca cola sent me a offer letter of daily pay rate of 113.60 plus case commision what do you think of this offer ?
FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Depends. You wanna run your ### off? Not bad then, get done early and get paid while gaining experience. Key to this job is moving as fast as humanly possible, you get done earlier and your hourly rate goes up. Once you get that down you can start adding more work in the mix to make more money.Jmelendez1223 Thanks this.

so you think i should take the offer is that reasonable ?FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
