DO NOT GOT TO CDL SCHOOL UNTIL YOU FIND A COMPANY YOU ***REALLY* WANT TO WORK FOR.

If you asked a barber if you needed a haircut what would he tell you EVERY SINGLE TIME? A CDL school will always tell you trucking is the career for you, your background is no problem, your recent conviction for mass murder is no problem, the 6 DUIs you got last year MIGHT be a problem, etc.

Whether you can get hired you will owe the CDL school for the cost of school if you go. There is a good chance you can qualify for getting a grant to pay for everything including CDL school since you have been out of work. Google WOIA/WIA and CDL school. It is offered through your state's unemployment office.

But if you don't do research and rush to get the license and work you almost certainly will wind up at a company that will be a terrible place to work. That means very little chance of getting 1 solid year of experience at one employer and moving to a better company. Make wise decisions going forward so your problems keep getting less and less important. DO NOT CONSIDER CR ENGLAND no matter what lies they tell you unless you already speak Somali and think a couple hundred dollars per week is awesome.

Find the company then find the school. Half of trucking companies will give you a Tuition Reimbursement plus pay if you don't qualify for WOIA/WIA. EVERY CDL school will find someone to loan you money for school. No research = bad outcomes and a hard life in trucking. More research = good pay and good benefits. The top 5 companies Google will tell you about are NOT good places for most newbies. They just pay Google to make sure they show up on the first page of search results. New drivers are in high demand, don't sell yourself cheap.
