i have a working iPad, i cannot get it power up after not use it for 2~3 years, I watched youtube, it did not help.

    as for 540,
can you charge it for x hours to see if it can power up?
old Rand McNally CE devices, after you plug the charge into the wall, it can power on right away,
Now days, most Android/iOS devices (TND 540 is one), you need to have at least x% of battery level in order to power it up.

    Could be anywhere

Had two previous RM GPS units. Just replaced the 720 I had with the tablet version. Three days later, it wouldn’t charge. Took it back to Loves, got a full no-questions-asked refund, and bought a Garmin Dezl.

Do not like the Dezl anywhere near as much as the RM in terms of utility, ease of usage, etc.

    But it works.

Nothing but problems with my TND 80
Wish I had read reviews prior to purchasing. Got this from RM. in short they made a high price POS.

Thank you for taking the time to contact Rand McNally.

    TNDT TABLETS

For the devices above that are experiencing one or more of the following issues; NO GPS issues, the device is freezing, map is spinning, the device is rerouting (recalculating), or the GPS has the truck icon off to the side and running parallel to the road, please refer to the below.

For the past months we tried looking for a permanent fix and it has been determined that the issue is external in nature. Testing has shown that the situation is revolving around some sort of interference in the truck. Which means another product of some sort is causing interference with the tablet specifically and causing this issue.

Please refer to the steps below to resolve the issue.

    Issue Symptom
‘No GPS’ issues, the device is freezing, map is spinning, the device is rerouting (recalculating), or the GPS has the truck icon off to the side and running parallel to the road
    Issue background & Resolution
Based on analysis of reports from customers -
    1. The issue symptoms are specific to TND Tablet 80.
    2. The issue symptoms disappear when the device is used in a different environment. For instance, Rand McNally has brought in and analyzed devices in in-house lab settings as well as on the road in different vehicles including trucks, but unable to reproduce the issue.
    3. The issue symptoms generally are seen by the same customers in their specific vehicle environment even with replacement devices are sent in.
    4. This leads us to the following conclusion and recommendation:
    a. Every electronic device emits electro-magnetic signals when operational - which can interfere with the operation of other devices. This interference is called Electromagnetic interference (EMI).
    b. Examples of devices that can cause EMI are
    i. Another GPS
    ii. Dashcam
    iii. Toll Tag
    iv. Satellite Radio Antennas
    v. A third party Bluetooth transmitter
vi. Any in-vehicle cabling that may be improperly grounded
    c. To address EMI, make sure the Tablet is not close to any other electronic products. (18 inches away, if possible)
    d. If symptoms persist, and you are not able to move the tablet then we recommend turning off or physically removing each of the other electronic items in the cab, one by one, to isolate the interferer. Once the interferer is identified, consider discontinuing use of or replacement of that device.

*** Please do not attempt these steps if you are driving solo. A Co-driver or someone in the cab with you should attempt when possible.

    1. Make sure that the device location is set to High Accuracy
      1. From the TND Tablet Home page tap white squares in upper right corner > Settings > Location > Mode > High Accuracy
      2. Switch to device only and back to High Accuracy if the mode is already set to high accuracy.
    2. Ensure the Power cord is plugged into the slice (Magnetic Mount) and not the tablet directly and the other end of the power cord is securely plugged to the truck power supply. It is strongly recommended to use the Rand McNally power cord that comes with the unit, rather than an aftermarket cord.
    3. Move the device around in the cab to see if it connects to the network, outside of the cab as well. This is obviously intended to be done while the vehicle is stationary. The purpose being that if the GPS is next to other electronics they may be interfering with the GPS's ability to maintain a strong GPS signal lock to the network.
    Our testing supports this decision.

You may also use the reset pinhole at the top of the unit to refresh the GPS. Uuse a paperclip/earring/etc to press the pinhole and if this does not resolve the problem, please follow the steps below to troubleshoot your GPS.

    1. Restart the tablet.
    2. Tap on the 9 white squares in the top right corner of home screen
    3. Go to File Manager and tap on the 3 white dots in the bottom
    4. Select Settings > Check off the box next to Show Hidden Files
    5. Tap the back arrow once and tap on SD Card > Navi > User
    6. Tap and hold on User.ini and Delete the file.
    7. Repeat with UserGPS.ini
    8. Test device

I'm having an issue with my TND 740. I've spoken with RM Support several times and we've tried several different methods of fixes, but I was hoping someone else might have had the issue and knew of a fix.

The GPS stopped asking if I was loaded or empty. Sounds simple, but it can greatly affect the route you take. RM Support has had me do GPS repair multiple times, multiple factory resets and connect to my PC and delete the user.ini and usergps.ini file in the Navi directory. Each time, it still refuses to ask if I'm loaded or empty. Yes, I do have it set to prompt and not always loaded.

Anyone else experience this or have a fix?

    Thanks,
    Larry
