It would be interesting to know all the past circumstances that lead to your claims of success.
Good for you if it’s all as you say.
Sadly, grit and determination alone has nothing to do with success anymore; any young person already knows that. This is the first generation in the history of this country that knows that they will be less successful than their fathers, regardless of grit and determination.
That alone is a morale buster in and of itself.

just wait for it... “pull yourself up by the bootstraps”TripleSix and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

I won't say pull yourself up by your bootstraps ...
But of you think it's impossible then for you it is -
It's funny this thread was originally started back in July of 2018 when the media was trying to fear monger a coming recession because things were getting better under Trump. Didnt happen now did it?
Bakerman, BigDog Trucker, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this. -
Give it time.
Nothing goes up forever. And what goes up. Always comes down. -
how do we define success? income? assets? quality of life? all of the above?FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

I have no qualms with that mentality as its how i was raised and how i raise my kids and they arent bothered either. It doesnt take pampering or sensitivity, it takes honest reality. "Quit youre whining boy. We're poor and arent gonna have what your friends have, but we dont need all that junk because we're tougher than them." 5 minutes later the tears dry up and we're back to work.
I just spent thanksgiving in a house covered in gadgets with kids having meltdowns over what they want for xmas. That wealth wasted isnt fixing any behavior issues.
My stance is that timing is what makes people have to pull themselves up. Sometimes over and over.dwells40, TripleSix and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
Maybe you’re right; Although I’ve been pretty hard pressed to find a ‘successful’ young person yet.
And of course, by success I specifically mean: Owning one’s own home, earning a good wage, cars paid off in full, having good medical insurance, a retirement savings, no outstanding student debts, and liquid cash in the bank.
All this that I mention was easily obtained, by just one person, back in the day.
I speak from experience... I was there, along with many others.
I’d be willing to bet that greater than 90% (if not more) of young people today have achieved this, nor will they ever.
It’s no longer about ‘attitude’, ‘grit’, ‘determination’, and ‘sacrifice’. It’s now all about the game totally being rigged now more than ever before and the complete lack of opportunity as a result.dwells40 Thanks this. -
I know several people in their early 20s with their own house, married, a few with their own buisness. It still is all about attitude, grit and determination, if you think there's no way you'll ever be successful you're behind the 8 ball already.dwells40, spyder7723 and TripleSix Thank this.
