Ditto the stickies: finally an owner op (the early parts) by broncrider: loadboards by pharmphail.

check OOIDA and FMCSA then ask q's. but this should answer most of your questions.

You don't need a tandem axle tractor to pull any fifth wheel made. A single axle will do it better and cheaper. One issue will be safety. You do not have enough weight to provide proper braking and handling. Even on a single axle you will likely need to lighten the suspension .

When you make the conversion most remove one axle. In addition, the bed you add provides ballast to th rear. I plan on hauling a Smart Car right behind the sleeper which will add additional weight. Many of the current HDT users are driving older Volvos with the brake proportioning valve in place. That reduces the rear brake pressure. Many of them think that is a bad thing not realizing that it was designed to increase safe bobtail braking.

Owner ops out, please advise me on JCT. I have owned my truck for five years now working out of Werner. I make good money here, just tired of all the splits and swaps for every load. I never seem to run a load to the end. Getting away from a computer log book would be nice too. Does Jct run drivers enough to make money and still be family oriented? Does JCT get you home when you want.

If any one could answer this would be great. What type of payments does a O/O have to pay to become and O/O.

From what i heard is IFTA, plates, fuel, and maintenance. What type of vehicle insurance and what is the average price O/O's have to pay. Also how does workers comp work and price? How does fuel tax work? What claims can we put on our taxes for example i heard O/O can put $50 a day for expenses similar to Per Diem. I've heard of Laws Revenue and how does that work?

    Thank you

This depends. Do you want to be an O/O leased on to a company, with or without a trailer, or you want to be an O/O with your own authority?
