Yes. Perhaps you missed this part: "Works great when I'm sitting somewhere or the couple hours before bed."

I also use this method to get the truck down to 68 just before shutting off the lights and going to sleep. My last run out to Texas it was still 90 degrees outside at 0200 so I did wake up in the middle of the night, but only once. Ran the A/C for about 10 minutes and back to sleep until morning. It wasn't the horror I keep hearing about.

My idle time is still nice and low and I'm getting plenty of rest.

For those without TAS, before I discovered how to manipulate the thermostat, I turned the truck on/off to avoid overidle. It's not nearly as convenient, but it does keep the truck cool and the idle percentage low. Swift seems perfectly content with replacing starter motors over installing APU's. So, whatever, NMP.

I won't be chiming in on this subject any further as you and some like you have your heads so far up the arses of company office workers if they drink coffee it burns your throats.[/quote]
I don't care who you are that's FUNNY!

For those of you pulling the fuse:
I was on the phone with a friend of mine (fellow Swifty) last night and he heard from his DM they had a meeting about driver pulling fuses. They will be watching!!

The way I see it, if you don't care about keeping your job, you might as well idle honestly. If you do care, don't idle. There's simply no reason to be pulling the fuse. What does it accomplish? Sooner or later, you're going to get caught.

im wondeirng if anyone know anything about the quall comm that could give me some real answers....REAL ANSWERS sorry but i know a lot of us truck drivers like to talk out of our ### about #### we know nothing about and i can tell if you are and really dont wanna ###### hear it but aside from all that... gettin sick of them complaining about my idling so i pulled the fuse a couple of days ago to see what would really happen.....and it works ...it doesnt show that your idling...and it doesnt record it later....i was at 25 percent when i pulled and then i put it back in....then the next dy i get a call from dispatch about me being 25 percent idle....i had idled it all night after i pulled it so i know they did see ####...but what it does show is that your rpms are idling...see what i mean....the truck says its off...but the rpms are still reading......im thinking ####...that is a really big red flag.....so i tried pulling the fuse to the instrument panel....didnt work....so one of two things i have narrowed it down too... its either hard wired to the engine or the ecu....and if in fact it does have somekinda of tampering system on it ....where is that im sure its some kind of switch...more than likely can be easily bypassed ....i really wish i could find a wiring schematic...but i have searched and cant find it...if someone has that please send me the link.....thx

Opti-Idle sounds good on paper, but I can't sleep with a truck turning itself on and off at random. What are everyone else's experiences?

It drove me nuts for about a week. Then I got used to it and I actually like it now because it keeps a more constant temp.

You'll get used to Opti Idle in about a week and it's legal in all of the places where idling is illegal! Now for pulling fuses and the TAS deal, don't forget that that truck goes in for service at regular intervals and they download the ECM and then you get caught! It's better to get your arse chewed over QComm as it's just a thing! In person if you don't have the wiskers that I do and could really care about someone attempting to chew your butt, idle away! Just remember that finding a driving job lately is a pain as there are a ton of driving school grads just waiting to take your place! But screwing with the electronics by pulling fuses can get your butt fired in a NY second! And remember that ALL of these looser big companies file DAC reports and THATS a career killer these days!

how does the opti idle work? I bought a 2004 columbia that has "opimized idle" stickers on the dash and a box in the sleeper. what I dont have is the book or a clue as to how the #### thing works.....I've always been an owner op, and never had to deal with company idle policies or equipment.

That's the same as Temp-A-Start I believe. I drove a Columbia that had TAS about 2 months ago for a few days.

For TAS, to use it there should be a switch on the dash labeled TAS, with the truck running - turn it on, then go to the sleeper and hit the ON button on the module and it should light up. Hit the temp setting button (or scroll through the options, if applicable) and set it to the desired temperature. Then just leave the truck running and it will turn itself off and on to hold the temperature. Leave the key turned on or the AC fan will not blow.

Setting the temp all the way down (68 I think) in the middle of summer will naturally cause it to continue to idle as it probably will never reach that temperature.

Opti-Idle itself may have a little bit different process, but it will be very similar using a switch labeled "Opti-Idle" I believe.

What it does is monitor the cab temperature, and when it moves 2 degrees away from the temp you have set, the truck will fire off the warning buzzer (annoying if it is loud) then start the truck up and run until the temperature is hit again, then it goes back off.

I'm a Swift driver and am going to continue to idle a I see fit to get the rest I need. The way I see it is that if they fire me it's just doing me a favor in the long run.
