As a child of the 80s - "stranger danger" was a common theme every year in elementary school. In spring of 4th grade we had to "walkpool" home with at least one parent if we didn't ride the bus. Some kid at the catholic school across the street had been approached and told his parents asked him to take the kid home.

I gaurantee that this would have raised some eyebrows back in the day.

I default to at least giving the accusor the benifit of doubt. In my experience, every case of a kid accusing an adult of sexual misconduct that kid gets distroyed by their peers. Also in my experience, the kid tends to be right. There might not be enough evidence for a conviction, and it is possible for everything being a misunderstanding, but at the very least someone did something VERY stupid.

Former LU swim coach charged with sex offenses.

This was a man I respected. He groomed these girls and when the first one spoke out she was vilified. Then others, some of whom said it was consensual, added to the narrative. It was gut wrenching watching this unfold as I knew both the perpetrator and several of the girls.

Kids aren't just going to make stuff up. Do you need to be careful about what you say and do? Yes, of course. But you also need to be careful when you are working on your truck - you use jack stands, make sure the key is out, etc.

Parent posts flier on social media, then someone tags a cop.

Cop searches the phone number and gets a name.

Cop searches the name and gets an email address.

Email address leads to a Tumblr featuring young, scantily clad boys.

Cop now has probable cause and gets a warrant, brings guy in for questioning and search his hard drive, finding lots of questionable things.

    Cops arrest and charge.

He hasn't been convicted yet, and they have not released his identity. The process is working.

It’s actually the parents I’m more afraid of.

Parents are the reason I no longer coach.

Not because I am worried about false accusations but because I couldn't handle 45 minute discussions over whether to have pizza or sandwhichs at the end of year picnic.
