FIRED!!! DAY 2 ORIENTATION

    Hi I've been reading these forums for a couple of years now and finally decided to post. I've had my CDL for 18 months and been driving for 14 months. Before obtaining my CDL I worked in a warehouse on a Military Base as a D.O.D. employee for 3 years. My first driving job was with a company out of Mississippi that worked out well for me as I was able to obtain my Tanker, Hazmat, Doubles and Triples endorsements and also my TWIC Card plus great experience. I was fortunate enough to save up to put a downpayment on a 2015 Volvo with 245,000 miles on it. I am prior military, US ARMY for four years but do not claim to be perfect. I got into some bad situations when I got out of the military and was consequently convicted of selling drugs in 2006. Fast forward to 2019 after I purchased my truck and was fielding offers from different companies, I settled on FEDEX CUSTOM CRITICAL because of the potential to hire on other drivers. The process to lease my truck on took about 4 weeks. I was sent an email saying that my background check came back and was "in house". I was given an orientation date and I promptly put in my 2 week notice to my previous employer. I started orientation December 2nd and had already signed the lease agreement amongst other things. Day 1 was great I learned a lot and was preparing to hit the road after my truck got detailed on Day 3. Well, I never made it to the 3rd day because on Day 2 after receiving our security badges I was pulled from the class and told that I couldn't be leased on because of the 2006 conviction which I stated on my initial application. I was caught off guard and really am still flabbergasted even after a week from the time of this situation. Any comments about what route I should take would be greatly appreciated. I am currently unemployed due to this situation and am looking to lease on with a great company. I understand the nature of the forum "thick skin" so I can take whatever good and bad advice that comes. Thanks....

    I am not here to give you emotional or thickskin trouble today.

    Go to the unemployment after documenting carefully the post battle format of everything that happened to you in the frame work of this forum post you wrote today. Expand on it with names and titles of the Office drones who deemed you no pass.

    You are a vet accorded some protections not normally allowed to us regular non vets in hiring. Take it to your state Unemployment or simiar and find the top hat heavy Sarge in from Decision makers and attempt to estlish a swearing in conference call to that employer who snipped some of your feathers. For the company to be dragged to trial they only want out because if you won your case for cause such as Scott vs SCOTUS for being starved out and not in top shape to run when called on to do it. If you do win it's going to be back pay all the way form day one of claim and a number of other goodies. Also you will force that company to be on record for the offense committed against you. There are people who are all over that kind of stuff.

    It is not the end of the world. Companies will pick, choose the best of the litter until they have a crew with which they think they will coveted crew they put in the not so clean trucks. (See? I keep taking cheap shots at companies, they are big enough for a few dents here and there.)

    Lease with a company that doesn't require all that security clearance crap and remember, you can't go to Canada because of the drug conviction.

    I actually don't mind someone with a little bit of lawbreaking. It shows they have grown a pair. Which will be useful at some point in this business.

    i thought about the "vacation time" or some "leave of absence", but the new employer will be making phone calls, and from what i recall, that can make for ill feelings at the old employer. up to the point of being let go, and not returnable for rehire.

    sticky wicket all around.

    best that the new employer TOTALLY vetted the new worker, FIRST, before orientation, especially since he was upfront about everything.

    he should be able to collect unemployment...however, the unemployment may ask him if his former employer will take hi back. if they say "yes", and he refuses, he may be denied unemployment benefits.

    i been through "some of this crap" myself.......(except buying a truck)

    If you completed probation you need to try to get your conviction expunged or if it was a felony reduced to a misdemeanor.
