When did you start, where did you train? Are you in your own truck yet?
BigRigBros48 Thanks this. -
started local when i was 18 working for pepsi, then went to may when i turned 21, and they are great. been with them for almost a year now!

So you know the terminal manager on 16th Ave I imagine. Is the Safety Guy the recruiter there? I noticed there were a LOT of tractors, and a LOT of trailers in the yard when I was by there day before yesterday. They take in new drivers at the Phoenix Terminal?

So tell us about idle time, and if you go over that allotted time that they take the money for that fuel out of your check. oh and are you personal friends with Marvin May?? good luck.
platinum and BigRigBros48 Thank this. -
PB, I'm guessing you aren't all jealous. You got some first hand skinny on the outfit? I'm interested to hear all about them. Their yard is not too far from the house. Looked sizable, although I don't recall seeing that many of their trucks here in town.
BigRigBros48 Thanks this. -
to your idle time question my simpson friend i dont really worry about it, i am in a team position with my brother, so the truck usually only stops for fuel or to eat. I do beleive that May trucking isnt that great for the team situations, their tractors just arent set up for it, we have a freitliner Cascadia 2008, but i have heard that there are other companies more suitable for Teams, but other than that our miles are terrific, they pay is respectable for teams starting out, and i think the max for solo is 42c a mile. Like i said i did local until i could go OTR, so i am still new, and i am always wanting to learn more. this forum is awesome for questions i have, and have had in the past. They are hiring out of phoenix, but i still did the school route. I went to The American institute of Technology in Phx. I got my PTDI Certification. Good School, Kind of Pricey, but i was approved for the pell grant at the max of 5350.00. which covered the majority of it. Like i said if you can get on with may, they are a smaller company, so you are a name, and not a number, like the bigger companies. My uncle worked for swift, and i heard they take advantage of newbie's, other than that i wont bad mouth, and ill just keep what i have heard from a swift driver to myself. I dont pick on other peoples companies, every one has to start somewhere. Thanks for the replys though guys! For all you May Trucking Fans

Read the may trucking story on the bad company thread here, you wil gain a lot of info there, I do know that Marvin May isnt the nicest guy to work for, many past employees wouldnt take theyr vacation cause many who did were fired when they got back, yes it was a scheduled vacation. and there was one point where Marvin decided to go behind his fathers back and tried to close down the original Payette Idaho teriminal and move everything to Salem Oregon, only thing is a little bird got word to Marvins dad and stopped that move. Marvin also has or had a philosophy and rule for all employees do it or get fired like that was to motivate anyone, so before you decide you want to go to may trucking do some research on them first then decide just like swift or jb hunt. good luck to you big rig.

BigRig - I am glad to hear that you like May.
I am thinking of signing on with them. I know that I am asking a lot, but there is not much on here about them. So if you could provide some info on what it is like working for them - good/bad policies, pre-hire physical test (what is involved). I know there is a two week training, do you recall the pay? Anything else would be nice to know.
If I do, I will be out of Denver. Any info on that terminal would be great!
