That was actually only $25. Bout the most reasonable expense I've ever had with that truck.

Ok believe it or not this past weekend I did some preventative maintenance. My passenger side fuel fairing had come unbolted at the bottom and just sort of flapping when driving.

I looked at the side that had already fallen off, borrowed a couple bolts from that assembly and got on my back under the truck to rig them into the good side. Gave it a tug, I was very proud of myself.

2 days ago cars are honking and pointing. Well the TOP of the fairing had come off and it was laying down scraping on the ground. Bashed it up pretty good and rubbed a lot of paint off.

It currently has the white duct tape treatment. This was the last phase in the loss of my driver side fairing. I expect it will be gone soon.

It's just really not a good idea that I service that thing myself. :biggrin_2555:

Rob if you have something like that which vibrates allot you need to use lock tight on the threads.

If you don't have lock tight take a can of spray paint and after you tighten the bolt spray the threads real heavy with the paint. that will keep the nut from coming of again.

(learned that trick from the chineese they don't know what locktight is either)

Go to Staples. Get a replacement adapter. $100. Get a pair of needlenose pliers and remove old adapter piece that's broken. Insert new adapter. Voila! Power to the laptop. I don't need to insert a "you can fix this, mechanic joke" here do I? :)

Sucks about the trailer. Glad to know you do have a couple lined up though.

I've been limping my laptop along for quite a while now. Likewise, mine needs a new power adapter AND a battery. But, since I only paid $300 for it, I'm thinking it's just time for a new one. I know just as soon as I spend the $200 on parts, the hard drive will take a schidt and then I'll be $200 in the hole towards the new one.

I probably ought to do it quick though... Mississippi wanted to see my log book the other day and I was feverishly trying to bend the adapter cord in such a fashion that the #### thing would come on... (I use DDL for logging).

Depending on its age condition etc, I think I'd get a new one too. I'd rather have 500 more in a new one that'll last than have 500 in one I can't depend on. Just my .02.

I've been considering an Acer Aspire with a solid state drive (so it could be left on while the truck was running down the road). It would make DDL a little more convenient if I didn't have to fire up the computer for every change of duty status. Then I could also run a GPS program too... my TomTom is getting long in the tooth as well.
