One photographer I work with that is an arial photographer, swears by toshiba laptops. He says they are bullet proof. He went through three other brands, before he found this one. Said they take the shock better than the rest. Just an FYI:biggrin_25525:

No the adapter is fine. The pin inside snapped off the board.

My current laptop is a Gateway. It's been a pretty good machine—had it going on three years now. Though after my last laptop that ate three hard drives in two years (left on in a rumbling truck), I treat this one like fine china. In fact, that's the only trouble I've ever had with laptops... hard drives with spinning platters are not meant to be used in rough environments anymore than you'd install a record player in your car, lol.

Although they've been around for quite a few years, solid state drives (no moving parts) have finally come down in price enough where us average Joe's can afford 'em.

The new netbooks are very light and very small. It'd mount to the dash with very little trouble.

Now I'm just waiting on a touch-screen flat panel to come down in price. I'll be on it like white on rice...:biggrin_25525:

All my laptops (4) are Acer Aspires. They are very good deals from tigerdirect and newegg etc. Usually $399 to $499 depending.

I was thinking Toshiba made Tough books that were in the cases, or crash helmets as a friend of mine calls them. Anyway, just looked them up & it is Panasonic. Point is, he told me to check with local fire & rescue squads as they get some steep discounts dealing direct. Been a couple years since I have talked to him, but may be worth checking into for those interested. To note, they were out of my price range even with his co's discount.

My g/f's Toshiba is a POS. She's treated it with kid gloves and it's never been in a truck, but yet after just over a year the processor fan isn't working right and it will over heat and shut off for no reason after just an hour or two. In order to use it now, she has to keep a desk fan nearby.
