    25 years in industrial maintenance management, until this economy went bust,,now unemployed, in truck school,, looking hard at TMC. any info about company or trucking will be very helpful...

    I'd suggest you not look at the best paying, (although typically flats do pay more) but not that much more, I'd sggest looking at the best'fit' for you, flats can be alot of work, esp in winter, at 56, i'm sure your in good shape, but I would not start out in trucking in flats at your age, I'd run vans for awhile till you figure out this game, then go to flats if you decide to.

    TMC as some nice equipment, mostly petes, which again I would not want to start out in, but if you do, you'll be able to master anything else after being in a pete!

    You should look into few companies before you pick one.Flat bed is fine but there is more labor to it.Not only that,you have to check your tide downs at every 150 miles or often.If I was you,I would start with a dry van company first.

    Or if you can find a good tanker outfit. Tankers pay the most but they don't run as many miles and loading and unloading takes longer. However most older guys have more patience and do really well hauling liquid freight. It takes more finesse. Also it's my experience that both flat and tank companies treat their drivers better. Van, and reefer outfits and replace a driver with just about anyone and they know it. Going back to what the other guys said, flatbed is for the young guys. Not to say you can't handle it....just be ready.

    I agree with teampitts3 about tankers. That is all I do. Easy money. These van outfits have a huge turnover for a reason. Flats as well. Even though you are new, I think if you can get on with a tanker company you will be happy. Just take the time to find the right one.

    Thanks so much for the info.. been lookin at this for months now. TMC keeps catching my mind,,, and comparable van operations you can suggest. Im in great shape, yes 56 and have sat on my ##### for a job for quite sometime, not afraid of hard workand I just want my first step to be in the right direction

    I have been looking at several, lota nightmare companies out the,, too #### easy to go in wrong direction.
