Too Soon To Be A Trucker

I was lucky when I started. They were short on drivers at the time so they would take anyone. Heck they were even willing to take me! Now If you have the right attitude and I think you do, you'll do well. Take every thing as a learning experience and try to never make the same mistake twice. It wont take as long as you think to be a top driver in a company.

 

Hey man I just left Schneider from the bulk side after about a year with them if you have any questions about things I’m here.

Don’t worry about being the best at backing right away. The most important thing to remember is to take “Your” time. Don’t get in a hurry, get out and look as many times as you need. Don’t worry about the people behind you. If you’re in a public lot, them honking or saying something is not worth you losing your license for hitting things.
My advice would be to not fear it and work on it. Put some extra time on your eta’s and stop in some truck stops during slow hours and pick a spot and work on setting up to put it in there. If you’re parking at the Oc’s for the night before you go and pull in with everybody else practice backing in by the trailers. Long as you stay under 5mph it won’t kick you into drive. They’re paying for fuel and it isn’t truck driving school where you do one and gotta give it to the next student. Take your time and learn it. It’ll take so much stress off of you

If I may say something it sounded as you're getting into your turns too fast. Maybe keep it in mind to slow down real good and turn the wheel wide and smoothly. Don't give up. No one came into this world clutching a CDL in their tiny hands. Good luck to you.

 

the worst thing too happen, Schneider fires you. So what !!! any other job is a step up. get your experience from the bottom feeder company. then find a real job. ha ha ha, oh yeah, stay away from another one, JB, ha, ha, ha

When you're driving, remember the acronym AGKLM (All Good Kids Like Milk). A - Aim high in steering (looking ahead for problems on the road). G - Get out and look (before backing, etc). K - Keep your eyes moving (scanning the road shoulder to shoulder, look at your gauges, checking your mirrors, etc.). L - Leave yourself an out (leave enough space between you and the vehicle ahead of you). M - Make sure they see you (make sure your lights are on, use your horns, etc). And when it comes to backing and paperwork, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME. Remember to breath and keep your mind clear. It might be hard to concentrate if someone is looking over your shoulder, but pretend theyre not there and move calmly at your own pace. Now, get back out there and find a company that wants to train you! Dont be scared of the challenge!
