Rob, is there a vocational school close to you? If so you might check to see if they have a diesel mechanic program. Might be good for all the little things that are ailing your truck.

 

you all need to realize Pharm doesn't want to learn to work on his truck. He thinks he can do this and take it to the shop every time a fuse blows. This was evident from his first few responses when asked about fixing things.

I though maybe she meant they would work on his truck as part of the school training.

 

Agreed, Pharm has made it abundantly clear he doesn't know how, and isn't much interested in learning how to work on the truck.

There is nothing wrong with that either. Do Not need to know to fix the triuck. Would guess that at least 70% of the drivers today can't change their oil or lube the truck, let alone fix anything. Remember checking the oil vid?

 

I want to learn everything I can about anything I drive or might be driving (94 Pete) I don't necessarily want to repair everything on it but knowing some things, I think will save me money and time if I can fix them. The other thing is that someday knowledge might save me money when a mechanic thinks he's gonna overcharge me or repair things that don't need to be done. Like the guy telling me the other day about the $100+ filter I'd need to have changed LOL.

 

I think thats the difference between a trucker and a truck driver. A real trucker owns and works on his truck, can fix anything and feels insulted when someone suggest to take it to a shop. Not many truckers anymore.

 

These are not the trucks of yesterday. Everything is electronic controls, it takes special tools data and computer programs to decipher and troubleshoot. The main mechanicals are the same on the interior of the engine, brakes, and transmission, but the controls for nearly everything is electronic. Even the throttle is drive by wire now. So, an operator should be able to do basic stuff, and have a good understanding of how it should operate.

But able to fix all???????? not today.

 

He's gettin good at getting paid to drive his truck around empty though. Got to give him some credit for that. Takes time to pick up on maintaining a truck, nobody picks it up overnight. Not everybody grows up around the darn things. If he makes it through the first year or two, he'll be on his way...........somewhere.....

 

That's what they do for those courses. I doubt they work on anything major, who knows. Might be worth looking into on all the minor issues that he has. Just a thought...
