First off,,, just wanted to say HI-- just joined-- this site looks like it will be quite helpful.
So here's my problem.
Got my class A in October and went to work for SWIFT. I know I Know-- but circumstances beyond our control put us there and there is where we worked--UNTIL last Wednesday..
Long story short- we got fired for dropping our trailer. NOT High value. Did have enforcer and kingpin locks on, and it was in a fence where we live B U T... we got fired because the security guard called Swift and complained. (East Texas POA--ugghhhh)
I'm wanting to know how this will effect our (my husband and I drive as a team) chances of getting on with another company.
We wanted to change anyway.....just didnt know we were doing it NOW.
What will show up on our DAC?
Will any company hire us now that we have been fired?
We dont have any violations or wrecks on our license, and had 100% on time for 9 months, but swift did write us "over speed" Go figure??!!?? 70 mph - twice
Will anybody else hire us?
Thanks
Now what do I do????

If you both just got your license in October it could be a problem. If he has more experience it'll be easier. Just apply everywhere. Be honest and upfront. Trucking companies have no patience for someone that lies on their application (even though they will lie to and about you for as long as you choose to remain in the industry) Be ready to be told no, be ready to put in a lot of applications but it will happen. Also, about the 70mph.... Where you in a state where you can legally do 70 in a truck? like Nevada or something? Even though you "violated company policy" it will be easier to brush off then say doing 70 in California.
-
Swift wrote you for 70? Who cares, they're not the police. As far as dropping the wagon... if you were told not to drop it, or it is company policy not to drop it, then they will probably put something to the effect of not following company policy on your DAC. Just explain why you were fired on your applications and if asked about it be truthful.
But good luck finding a job with less than a year and being fired. I'm sure there's something out there, but I was a 12 year experienced driver who was laid off and it took me 2 months to find something.getitgirl Thanks this. -
Hey- thanks for the replies//// We both have the same experience.
That whole dropped trailer thing is bugging me. Our DAC does say for CVP-other- which could be anything from wearing flip-flops inside a terminal (dont laugh) it happened to driving their truck drunk.
It happened on Wed and we already have 2 companies expecting us at orientation on Mon. It has been a HASSLE having to explain it--but!! the companies that would take the time to look at it have not found it to be a problem- thank goodness
Hindsight is 20/20 and there are sooooo many things we could and probably should have done different.
Wish us luck--- -
Careful not to job hop too much. Dont try to find the "better" company. Everyone here will tell you that. I dont know how many have lived it, but I have. It just kills you. Companies don't care that you left because you were driving unsafe equipment, not get paid, etc. They care that you left. They will tell you it costs WAYYYYY to much to hire and train someone, etc....and how do they know you wont just split on them? Maybe they should start treating drivers better so they aren't so fast to leave.... I swear these bigger trucking companies have to be ran by gangsters. Anyway, back to the point, you've probably heard it before, you're gonna hear it again. Dont believe any trucking company is any different or better then the other one. You're hauling the same freight to the same customers on the same road dealing with the same company politics, only thing different is the color of the hood you're looking at through the windshield.
Darkschneidr, danelady and getitgirl Thank this. -
The QC will do this if you are running anything over 64 and bump the throttle. I get these all the time (I'm not joking, multiple times per trip). 71 is considered "Excessive Overspeed" and Swift will terminate for it quick like and in a hurry. -
Hey Dark-
We learned how to not make it bump at 64--- if the cruise is on and you dont step on the gas peddle... nothing registers until the "excessive" overspeed. Which by our gps shows up t 71.4 mph.
They said it was for going "over 70 for over 2 mins.."
Thats just pure bull--- we watch a speed very carefully--- but thats old news.
IT might have given them extra reason- but the fired us for dropping a trailer. That is what is on our DAC... I think they were looking for a reason.... which is cool..... we were due another pay raise and those extra .01 cents were gona break the company since they were giving a team 2500 miles a week on average--- i am soooooo kiding- Kinda'''''. We wanted to go to another company.... just not exactley that day- teeheehee...Weve already gotten (sp?) hired on with USA..... not exactly where we wanted...... but after getting fired.... we are just glad to have a job.
Wanted to get on with a place that actually knows how to run teams, and actually has team freight, but we will need to stay with USA for awhile so it doesnt look like were job hopping. Do u work for swift....what terminal--do ya like it?? -
Try looking for a job with a small fleet that doesn't use DAC. Good ones are out there.
