Actually she's not a "porter" anyway. It's just not pc to call someone's job by the real title if some one will find it offensive. The job the op is doing, and would be called in another time would be janitor. And I don't know anyone who would expect a janitor to be tipped. Some do yes, but it's not expected.

I looked up Porter, one of the definitions is custodian, or janitor.

I spent the time, effort and MONEY to improve my career opportunities by getting my CDL.

If you're sick of cleaning showers for no tips, gee, maybe you could do the same, and invest the effort to improve your lot in life instead of whining about how a bunch of heartless, underworked overpaid truckers won't support your lifestyle by tipping for a service they're paying for. Argue that point all you want, but it's irrelevant.

I tip wait staff, according to service provided. Wait staff work for a fraction of minimum wage, plus tips.

Do custodians, oops, sorry, "Porters", receive minimum wage or better?

    Porters hump luggage.

People cleaning out showers arent humping my luggage; they're working for minimum wage or better and they're doing the job that they accepted and so why are we even having this conversation?

My wife cleaned showers as one of her duties at a local Pilot truck stop. She was making $13 an hour in a state where the minimum wage is $8.50. She doesn't feel insulted at all that she didn't get tips and in fact was not even allowed to accept tips.

Wow I commend your wife for turning in the couple bucks left on the sink in the shower room, I’m sure the Haslams appreciate it.

I threw 10 bucks down on the counter a couple weeka ago because the shower was very clean and the young man cleaning the showers welcomed me and say enjoy your shower. He was busting his ### getting all those showers clean after 9pm working alone. I have no problem tipping for good service but lets be honest most the times the showers are disgusting. And the porters give it a once over with the mop and call it a day.

Swift is always hiring. You can clean up after dirty truckers for little pay or you can be a dirty trucker for even less pay. Either way, we all work for a living.

Somewhere many have lost the gift of giving which will come back to you in time over and over. During the month of Dec I leave 20 for the porter and waiter so they can have a little joy. Don't care if they buy beer or smokes it there money to enjoy. Most the time I leave 5 you can't even eat at McDonald's for that. The tire guy and mechanic and most service people always get 20. Best part is my family does the same thing we have never missed a meal. But one day my wife and I at drive though at McDonald's had our meal paid for by the person behind us that was so cool. We now do that once while. What every person does with there money is there choice. But some times giving will help others more then we realize.

You know I never thought of tipping the shower cleaning person till my wife went along with me. We only stop at one TS because I have a regular run and spend most nights at home and since she started tipping and talking to the 3 people that clean them when we come in they ask if we want more towels and point us to the best showers lol. Guess it pays to be nice to people.

If you clean the shower decently I’ll leave a 5 on the counter. If it’s not clean I don’t.
Back before my ex ran off we would go to the same truck stops as often as possible. The cleaning staff knew that if the showers were CLEAN C-L-E-A-N it was an easy 20$ bill. If they were nasty I’d have it cleaned before we used it.

Don’t expect anyone to tip you for a ####ty half assed job. No one liked to walk on a floor you moped with the same water as the entire store all #### day.
