Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and it looks like a great place to learn. I have been driving for almost 4 years (local) never leaving the city of Dallas. They are closing the doors at our company and I'm going to be going OTR. We were never required to fill out logs since we ran local. Can so someone tell me were I can learn a little about filling out logs? One question that keeps running through my mind is how do I fill out when I'm out for 3 weeks at a time when your not allowed to run that long. I hope someone understands the question.
Thanks![]()

longer, there are restrictions on:
a) how many hours you can drive in a day (11hrs)
b)how many hours you can be on duty and still drive (14hrs)
c)how many hours you can work in a 7 or 8 day period
which is I believe 60hrs in 7 and 70hrs in 8 days.
It's really simple once you learn the basics of logging, you log it like you
do it. You can only drive 11hrs before having to take a 10hr break. You
can only drive those 11 hrs within a 14 hr period, once you are on duty formore than 14 hrs even though you only drove say 5 hrs you are requiredto take a 10 hr break before being able to drive again.
Everyday you keep a running total of all hours spent driving or on duty and that goes against your 70 or 60 hours. If you take a 34 hr period
without driving of going on duty then your 70 or 60 hr clock restarts which
is know as a 34 hr reset.
Hope this help you out.Mastertech and rookietrucker Thank this. -
Coonass,
Just was and a little confussed. Here are 2 examples. I hope you can help me with.
1. Starting out today
Mon drive 10
Tues drive 8
Wed drive 11
Thur drive 10
Fri drive 10
Sat drive 10
Sun drive 5
Mon drive 4
Total 69 now do I have to take 36 hours off to reset?
Sorry just really having a hard time with this -
Starting on Tuesday, you strike the hours driven on monday, leaving you with 59 hours counting toward your 70. It's a sort of rolling 8 day hour count.
[-]Mon drive 10[/-]
Tues drive 8
Wed drive 11
Thur drive 10
Fri drive 10
Sat drive 10
Sun drive 5
Mon drive 4 -

So to I have to take a 36 hour break? -
-
Rich,
Ok so as long as you don't reach your 70 hours in 8 day's I don't have to reset -
Rich,
Also does the Sleeper count in the 10 hours or 36 hour reset? -
Also don't forget that the 70 hours includes all on duty time, not just driving time.
jimbo,
