Lmao imagine someone telling you they’re a great driver, and in the next breathe admit they can’t stop making the most basic of mistakes and the company has to pay for their goof ups!

“I need the most money there is in trucking! I’m the best! I locked my self out of the truck again!”

Very true. The loudest guy in the room is always the weakest guy in the room.

I like that. I do have one issue with the message though. It would seem to enable the slackers. “The quiet professional” will gladly do their work without question when he shouldn’t have to because he’s had more than his share of his own to do.

We have drivers who think nothing of adding fluids, air, changing a headlight bulb or wiper but we also have a few that won't touch a unit unless it's turnkey.
Those few pop the hood and look at it in a Chevy Chase Grand Canyon manner, not having a clue.
Jeez..we have one that for years didn't realize we had a 300 gallon bulk window wash fluid tank to fill the trucks reservoir so he just wrote it up.."needs washer fluid"
Lucky for us we only have one of these rubes.

BTW not only do I carry a spare key I have a backup to the spare.

What you are speaking about is called Bad Management. The slacker is being rewarded. Sure sign of bad management.

Clearly then, if you are that great of a Super Trucker then you clearly ought to be running your own operation instead of slaving for someone else.........or is there something holding you back from becoming that guy? You could have more drivers than you could put into trucks if you advertised what a great guy you are and that you, as owner, will pay for all the screwups, no matter how simple minded the screweup is and has noting to do with you owning the truck.

One of our log truck drivers, an old hand who never caused trouble or put so much as a scratch on a truck, was turning around in a bad place in the woods and hooked his bumper on a stump. L-shaped it.
We always use cut-down frame rails for bumpers but this was a new truck and we hadn't made the switch yet.
    The driver was embarrassed.
He offered to pay for a new bumper. I told him to just dig through the scrap pile and find a good piece of frame rail, help the mechanics cut it down, put it on the truck, and be ready to go in the morning.
He didn't clock in for the time he spent on the new bumper.
    Was that fair enough?
