I know that the Adverse Driving Conditions rule is primarily for weather and other road conditions that we might face....
But, can it be invoked when the cause is ID10T related outside the driver's control or ability to predict?
For example, I left a shipper with enough time available to cover 150-180 miles, but due to several collisions, the pace I was able to travel at was cut so short, I was only able to cover 90 miles in 4+ HOURS! 90 miles should have taken MAYBE 2 hours, even in the nanny state of California. My eld asked me if I was driving or not multiple times....

If the traffic was so bad that I lost 6 hours waiting on fatals (Plural) to be examined by the coroner and then removed from the smash up pile of vehicles having moved a little over two miles in 6 hours towards Louisville from Nashville.... the entire day is a bust. Find a truckstop in Louisville and go get a good dinner and bed. eff the schedule. Call in the next day and get a new appt time. (After informing dispatcher of the total and absolute hold up due to the fatals.) I could have walked 14 miles in 6 hours. (I occasionally did 10 miles in 4 walking when I was younger back home or 70 miles in 6 hours on a '85 10 speed bike.)
Again that special rule due to adverse etc... I might have used it once in my lifetime. It is still treated like a violation. So why do I bother. So I don't Once I had a dispatcher #####ing at me to force me to use 16 hours every day all day on my paper logs to service her darden resturants and I told her to shove it. If she did not yell before she certainly lost her temper (How dare I talk back...) then. And there was no love lost at that point. I can argue with a man disptacher and sometimes win. But all of my female dispatchers usually ended in me leaving that employ for a different job OR... better yet, much better yet witness the entire company burn down into bankruptcy and go out of business. I don't mind female bosses but only when they are involved in certain types of employment other than trucking. -
You just nailed why all these multiple crashes occur, multiply that scenario times all the trucks trying to do the same thing at the same time, is a recipe for disaster. When we made our own hours, that rarely happened. This country should be run by old truckers, we'll make it right again,, ( cough, wheeze)
Cabinover101 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -

I consider frequent urination breaks adverse conditions.
homeskillet, PE_T and Cabinover101 Thank this. -
How does the adverse weather work? Does it add 2 hours to your 14-hr clock? How often can it be used?
