All we hear about are people posting their passed level one inspections but no one post about the mishaps. Here we go...
As most of you know , I just switched over from Flats to dry van with the 2003 Wabash I recently bought.Coming from Tulsa on 40, I just passed a roadside DOT on the shoulder. He pulls out and follows me.As we get closer to the rest area, he puts on his lights.I pull into the rest area.He opens the passenger door and said, "you did nothing wrong , but you just weaved a little bit and wanted to make sure you were alright".In my mind, muther######, I wasnt sleepy. He looked deep into my eyes and asked about my picks and deliveries and sent me on my way.5 miles down the road, my prepass didnt alert me , so I know they turned off their device at the coop.I pulled in , and got a green light to come on the scaled.Jumped on the scale with 10kibs in the box.Stood on the scale for a while and he microphoned me to come out back while everyone bypassed .Checked my paper work and logs.He really went through my phone logs and found nothing.Told me to meet him by my truck with the creeper.I stood a few feet from the truck as he instructed, and went inside the truck and checked the sleeper. He then broke the seal and looked in the box.He then issue me their own seal and asked me to close the doors.
He creeped under the truck and trailer.Checking lights, the #### headlight didnt wanna work. That was perplexing , because it worked during pretrip.Marker lights work but not the headlight or truck tail.He gave me a warning for 2 trailer slacks being out of adjustment and the tail lights on the truck didnt work.WARNING WITH NO FINE........same #### as an actual ticket smh
I then spent 10 minutes in the parking lot figuring out my lighting issue.I checked the fuse, the relay and everything seem fine.I then hit the flasher light and turned the headlight back on , and everything started working.Of course I couldnt go back to the officer to change the warning report.Having automatic slacks never gave me a hint to check my brake during pretrip.I got my creeper out with my 12mm ratchet and grease gun.Greased all slacks and adjusted them.To end this long story, he said I was 2 1/4 inch and 2 1/2 out of adjustment on both axles and that was close to being put out of service.smh
lesson learned to keep my eye on even automatic slacks.
ARKANSAS DOT almost put me out of service

2-1/4" and 2-1/2"? With standard stroke chambers you would have had no brakes on one and a little bit of heat would have over-stroked the other one. Keep an eye on those 2 slacks. If they go out of adjustment again, make sure your pushrods are cut the right length and consider replacing the slacks if the rods are the right lengths.

It is what it is. I know many drivers never check their equipment, but independent o/o’s need to make sure more than anyone else that all their lights are working, brakes adjusted properly, no leaks, and so on. Whenever a cop sees an independent passing through, they know they can bust them. Mega companies have trucks less than 3 years old and a group of lawyers to check if any citations their drivers were given can be fought.

Every once in a while when you’re sitting at a red light or something really stomp on your brake pedal. That will ratchet your auto slacks up.
