I used to think my husband was crazy always thinking the worst of people. I now don’t. Of course, I would never tell HIM that.

Fog was mighty thick coming down US23 from MI through OH. Im going slower for conditions and cars zooming by even though can't see anything and lots of them without their lights on. Get close to Columbus where traffic lights start coming up and I slowed down and stopped at a redlight because I saw the signs along the way warning there were lights ahead. Do you think the cars in a hurry today slowed and noticed the signs? Nope.....heard brakes squealing behind me at the red light and thought I was going to get rear ended by a few cars not paying attention and going faster than they should have been. Of course they blow the horn thinking Im stupid for stopping in the road....before they see the redlight, lol! Glad to be parked for the day....getting up at 230am to get out before all the knuckleheads get on the road....love it when I can work it to wear Im moving by 3am everyday. Dreading national drinking and drunk driving day coming up....Merry Christmas everyone!

But they say that Knight is your "Hometown National Carrier"? Lets look at the facts. Are they an OTR carrier, Yes. Do they pay for all of your on duty time? No. Do they pay the exact miles that you drive? No. Does their health insurance cost you an out of pocket expense? Yes. Does the company pay for your retirement or do you have to contribute to it? No and yes. Do you receive holiday pay, vacation pay, sick day pay, funeral pay and jury duty pay? Only you can answer that. Knight is just another Junk OTR company. Why do you folks still work for companies like this? Good grief!

We drive for Abilene. This change of procedure is just something new from Knight.

I will only respond once to your statement. Not everyone on this forum, or at any other company are in the same position. After 41 years of this, the last 7 here at Abilene, I came to my conclusion years ago, this industry sucks. I despise everything about it. But, I still enjoy my job, and really like the concept of OTR. Now, in regards to the point you bring up, I would not trade my life I have now and worked for the last 41 years. It’s all about money, every last one of us, me and yourself are prostitutes, we work to earn. Me? Been very fortunate the last 41 years. I was able to retire financially 5 years ago. I continue to work because I can. I’ve saved every year since 1978 when I started this for my retirement, which I started with my wife through Ameriprise Financial. I also contribute to my 401K after 6 years, and have a little over 6 figures in it. You see, my point is this, if your goals are in place, and you work for them, then it doesn’t matter who you work for.

Your remark about junk company? You only know a small part of it. I’m not here to defend Knight or Abilene. But I will defend why it’s good for me. Abilene has the lanes I enjoy traveling, I get home when I want with no questions asked, am able to take 6 weeks off a year for vacation and another 6 weeks off for assorted hometime. It’s Christmas, I got home last Thursday, and deliver 6 miles from my house this coming Monday. When I finally leave, I will have been home for 15 days, unpaid. And you know what? It won’t hurt me one bit. Again, it’s all in how one plans. I started planning 41 years ago and made it, the whole time as a company driver.

I’m glad folks like yourself stop in here and stir the pot with their opinions. It’s all taken with open mind, but trust me, what ever your belief is or stand is, or think how good you have it where you are, some of us have been there for a while. What’s good for some won’t work for others. Personally, I’m a lazy SOB. I barely want to walk to the back of the trailer to open and close the doors. That’s the extent of my physical job.

I could go on forever about these things you brought up. But it isn’t worth it, you have your opinion, I respect that, but please, try not using it as a blanket statement for everyone, some of us are in a pretty good position.

My heat is variable too once in a while but I just twist the temp knob back and forth a couple times and it starts working normal again like it gets stuck.

That just jogged my memory about the Volvo’s I’ve had. Sometimes the fan would quit working. Just stop blowing and you wouldn’t really know it until you were getting cold or hot. Turn it completely off for like 15 minutes and voila! Back to normal.

    Merry Christmas y’all.
