    Yes... a lot of work... That is an art inherited from the Portuguese... we see mosaics everywhere...
    Copacabana sidewalk sea shore for instance is known for its mosaic of black and white squared stones all put by hand one by one for miles and miles... That represents the waves...

    They are called Portuguese sidewalks... but they are not only on the Copacabana seashore sidewalk.. they are everywhere... public squares and other public places...

    Now just imagine this... the average salary of someone who sets those stones on the ground forming the mosaics is about R$2.000,00 a month.. which is about U$500.00 a month... and work about 44 hrs per week... under hot sun...

    [IMG]

    Mosaics are on stairs, walls, cathedrals, just everywhere in Brasil...

    Inside Rio de Janeiro Cathedral... that is glass...

    Most interesting is that at the bottom of that sign, in microscopic letters, it says "Also, the bridge is out ahead"... :biggrin_2554: :biggrin_25523:

    Oh yeah.. it was a beautiful hot sunny day here today too... However, the beaches were not crowded cause most folks were sleeping at home all day or recuperating from a hangover... :confused:
    Hey... what are those people doing dressed on the beach like that? :biggrin_1square1:

    @Rocks
    Stained glass work, along with some mosaic work have been hobbies for quite some time. Usually would make window lights. That is a glass that is fit into an existing window.

    that has to be the coolest thing i have ever seen @Rocks . there doesnt seem to be any designs like that in america. maybe in the old cities in the east coast there may be something. out west where everything is new it is sterile and boring .

    I must say that I don't see major differences among American cities... except a place like Louisiana, or cities in the country old west or some older architecture in the Northeast...
    But I must say that there's A LOT of diversity in Brazilian cities.. huge difference between regions.... one may very easily think they are in a different country going thru regions in Brasil... everything changes from place to place, not only the architecture, but the food, their dressing, the color of people, their music, their habits, words... etc, etc...
    And Rio is very effervescent... even though there's a lot of poverty, slums, pollution, trash on the streets, bums living on the streets, vendors everywhere... it's never boring like it is in America.. besides, it's very LIVE... with so many people everywhere... on the streets, and music and sound everywhere.. and colors... it makes a true blend of styles, concepts, religions, status... everything...

    At one time I was going to have a scale raliroad go around our property. So I was going to name the road I lived on as "Rail Road"
