wow...that stinks! Yeah the old Cincinnati dispatcher, Hope, is now down there. Saw her last time I had to stop there and get my truck looked at. Yeah, seems things are going to be REALLY, REALLY slow this Holiday season. I wanted to be home on tuesday(11/26), and got tank washed from DE all the way back to NC. Called and said all I needed was a restart(since I won't have but 11 hours for the next day, unless they wanted me to roll with them, and then recaps)...but was told do a restart and roll on monday. Didn't get a call. I'm willing to help out, since alot of people take the whole week off. Oh well.

After 1 year from your first day solo. I've taken several unpaid days off without an issue.

I see... thanks. I stay out a lot so I can take weeks off if I desire but I rather not them be unpaid.

So earlier in the year you said you were on track to gross $70k w/ Superior in your first year. Did you end up hitting that mark even w/ the unpaid days you took off?

Also how did you have to run to make that kind money? Did you have to run otr / "system" for several weeks in a row or can you stay regional w/ descent home time and still make that kind of income?

So end of the year total is $76,482 (see attached). Not too bad for a rookie, I'd say.

I never went out in the system. I run dedicated runs out of Markham, IL (Chicago). I'm usually out 1 or 2 nights, but recently ran a few longer runs (UT, TX), but always sent right back home empty. I've done every 34+ at home this year. I started off home about 4 nights a week but have had less home time with these longer runs. I run at least once a week to Harrisonville, MO (500 miles) so that's one night out and back (that's my current location). I've seen plenty of Raeford, NC and Cortland, NY. I've done the TX run twice and Utah once, so otherwise it's Midwest regional dedicated work (IL, IA, MO, WI mainly).

I've taken 4 unpaid long weekends, had about 5 days off Thanksgiving week (2 paid) and just 2 paid days off this week for Christmas. I spent the first 3 weeks of the year still in training getting hourly pay, and the first week was short with NYE holidays off. I'm usually home by Saturday at the latest and go back out Sun eve or sometime on Monday.

I figure $80k is reasonable for 2020 if I run the same. I don't ever turn down work and work as needed. I have no seniority so I get what I get. I do a good job and have never been late or screwed up a delivery so I think I get good runs (and also runs that may be hard but I can pull off- for example, only a day and a half to run 1000 miles). I pretty much start pretrip as soon as the clock hits 10 hrs coming off my break. I don't pull over for naps or take anything longer than a 30 minute break. MY goal is home time so I run hard to get back home, and my dispatcher always gives me good home time.

A majority of the work is either popping the dome or drop & hook, but I've seen about 8-ish air offs and a handful of pump offs. The TX run is a 3 compartment air off, but goes really fast, and is warmer than the midwest so not a bad run.

Hope that sums it up. Let me know if you have any questions. With the new acquisition by Heniff I don't forsee changes for me but you never know. I have no seniority and low experience. I've been told there were a few months I was the highest revenue earner for our terminal, so I hope the way I run will keep me employed if it comes down to cutting drivers. Most seem to think they aren't looking to get smaller, but rather be the major player in the area tanker scene. We shall see...

Sounds like you hustle hard. Way to go.

I on the other hand, am OTR I take it easy. I stay out 3+ weeks at a time. Average on duty time is about 9.5 per day. I take naps all the time. I just make sure I deliver and pickup on time. I am on par to make $85K my first year with Superior if things keep at same pace next five months. Am also a rookie, got my CDL OCT 2018.

Yeah I know my friend in the system runs like you...naps, breaks every 2 hrs, 8.5 hrs a day. I never get recap lol, pretty much run my 11. Good on you! She tries to talk me into jumping in to the system but I miss home too much. Plus we have a new grandson so I'm rushing to get home.

Also, I think I'm setting up for 85-88k actually, if I take my weekly average. But I like to think conservatively. And idk if I want to run this hard lol. I don't ever nap but I don't need to rush, just can't help myself. Hoping to slow down in 2020.
