Yes that’s the cost of doing business in any business.

Thanks for confirming. Like I said 150k ain't bad, but then say your truck takes a crap and you have to buy a new rig, that's your years saving.

I own rental property’s and commercial property s that’ I could stop driving today and be fine. If you live by worst case scenarios you’ll never pull the trigger and always think about what could happen ......
I pumped gas when I was a kid in NJ and
Remember the grown men who worked that minimum wage job with me putting down
People who would come in the gas station with
Ferrari’s and expensive cars and they would
Put the people down saying “ do you know how much insurance or payments that fool in the Ferrari is paying !... I always wanted to be the guy in the Ferrari.......
I’m not saying I drive a Ferrari , but it seems like your trying to pick apart a successful profitable operation to justify why your a company driver.

Oh I'm not trying to knock your operation at all. I was just stating for the record that you can make good money doing just this, but perhaps someone else reading wouldn't have realized that you always have to plan for a worst case scenario. My apologies if I came off as so.

It didn't even come to mind that someone on here would have multiple revenue streams with the amount of people on here complaining about getting shafted on cpm or layover pay or deadhead pay or whatever. Kudos to you for doing it the smart way.

I ran my own repair shop for many years before jumping to Con Edison where I currently drive a Vactor. While it ain't anywhere near what you gross (63k Max for us) I still enjoy driving a truck, and have been toying with the idea of running a dump or trash on the weekends. We don't use Elogs either.

No problem brother. I was just getting that kind of vibe from your posts. To be honest your gig with ConEd will put you way ahead in the long run than most owner operators. I’ve never seen many owner operators end well who didn’t diversify their income . I’m not saying most owner operators aren’t successful, some are many are not in the long run. Many are on a never ending tread mill of truck payments or repairs and don’t invest money for the long term. Trucks wear out and break and they’re expensive to fix and buy and it’s hard to not throw all your money back into the business and put money aside for taxes, retirement and
The day you don’t want to or can’t drive anymore.
I was fortunate to become friends with an older ( in his 80’s) pretty wealthy gentleman who started out delivering eggs in the 50’s with an old panel truck. He eventually went into the moving business and built a nice business but invested everything into real estate and eventually owned 32 commercial properties. He sold his moving company in his 50’s and lived a very good life just managing his commercial properties with his wife. His inner peace and happiness always stuck with me and although I
Don’t have the type of real estate portfolio he had , I always respected his advice to buy real estate. I also liquidate equipment as a side business. I bought a farm 4 years ago , I’m not a farmer , the house is 4000 sq ft with 7 bedrooms and it has a big commercial shop and I buy equipment or businesses and liquidate the equipment . Between that and real estate , I don’t plan on being in trucking more than a few more years. But hauling trash for the last 20 years has paid for most of it......

It's all legit. $400 a week and they maintain the trlr. My brother does 1200 a day. Before he bought his 2nd truck. He doesn't complain. Btw. They used to put new o/o on their ins. But too many dumb ##### will make you change your policy. Your own authority for 6 months before they put you on their ins now.
