HAH, man that made me laugh...
Go get em tiger!
But ya, I'm an ex-sailor. And a trucker. There ain't much I haven't done, and prolly even less I haven't heard. But things I've heard on that CB can cause ME to blush sometimes... or spit coffee all over my dash... geesh... -
No worries, Silver. This place is what questions are for, and the more you know going in the better you'll be prepared for what you didn't know you'd need to know... if that makes sense...

Good luck to you on your chosen career!
I always look at life this way. My eyes open up, I`m breathing and I`m on this side of the grass. So anything else good that happens during my day is a bonus!
Keep on smile`n and enjoy.

Anymore companies are going away from having animals in the truck, and I think its probably because of the idling. Not to say there aren't any...I would absolutely wait though. I'm sure you don't want to get one for the truck only to find out you can't keep it and then the poor dog winds up in a shelter. Especially if you're a rookie..you'll be living, breathing, eating, poopingLOL,sleeping and focusing on your new career. A dog will be a distraction, believe me. I knew I wanted a dog with me so thought I'd get a year under my belt and be ready to take on a puppy. Well,I did it...but one year ain't nothing behind the wheel of a truck and it was a lot of extra work. Of course I love the big lug to death and I think he could probably drive if he wanted to. But there have been some emergencies that came up and I had to make arrangements for the dog in a split second...like when I got appendicitis on the road and had to have emergency surgery. They wanted to wheel me into the operating room and the whole time I'm screaming WAIT!! I have a dog in my truck!!
I had to find arrangments for him from the bed in the ER. Then they need shots and other things to keep them healthy on the road...and then what about their emergencies? I delivered in Boise yesterday, and I noticed Earl has been shaking his head for a couple of days...ever since I let him run through a field of dry grass. I know a bunch of great dane people on the internet and one of them recommended a vet here...so $250 later he stopped shaking his head. They looked in his ear and found a foxtail, just like I figured was in there. Even got pics of the #### thing in his ear from the monitor they use, have a look below. The vet was a hottie too,I might have to find something wrong with Earl every time I come through Boise..LOL! #### expensive romp in the grass! Just giving you some of my experiences on the road and in no way saying you'll go through the same thing. But anyway...I tried teaming and now I have a dog..you do the math!! haha
Anyhoo,I suggest you concentrate on driving first. -

That all depends on the company you drive for. Some will and some wont. All you can do is ask. Me I have my little puppy with me all the time and the company dosnt mind, but the last outfit I worked for had a no pet policy. Just dont get the dog thinking it's alright cause you could find yourself out of a job and that woldnt be good. As for helping your mom good on you. I came off the highway for three years to help my parents and still help with my dad when I'm home every second weekend just to give my sister a break. Dosnt leave much time for a social life but it's just what we have to do for family.simplyred1962 Thanks this.
