Lol-- I don't blame ya man. I Remember seeing lots of cali tags out west Texas way headed east not long ago. I'm 5th gen Floridian, and this place is turning into NJ quick. Couple that with the never ending bugs, humidity and daily "Florida man" stories and I've seen enough. This state isn't big enough for 15 million people much less 22 million--(projected 26 by 2030)

Not to mention trucking here sucks.

If population is part of the problem, then Utah is out. One of the fastest growing states. Mostly people moving in from California.

The only decent neighborhoods in Tucson are either far west like on Irvington past Mission, east of Houghton, or north into the Foothills along Skyline drive.

Everywhere else is rife with crime.

If I lived in Jax, Florida, ( almost happened) I'd pester Publix until they hired me. Be the last trucking job you'll ever have, and be home every day and be looking at new Mustang convertibles in no time.

SLC is NOT truck friendly. The 4 wheelers have no respect for their lives.

And moving west. Housing and rent have doubled in the last 3 years with the current administration. And the states are begging the gooberment to bring in the refugees. There's more room to grow.

Wages are low and housing is up. But raise wages and housing goes up even more.

I have no idea who can afford $400k or would even want to pay that for a 500 square foot house built in the 19th century.

3 years ago rent was $1 per foot. Now it's $2 per foot.

Renters want to be home owners but can't afford a house anymore. At the same time. They can't afford to rent anymore, either. And home owners don't want to own a home anymore. Now they want to rent but can't afford to rent.

Housing has gone insane out west. And the wages just aren't their to support housing. Never have been. And it's getting worse.

I will agree rent/housing is out of control. In my humble little town, a converted hotel room( basically) recently sold for $300,000. Rent for a 1 bedroom is $8-$900/mo. new houses cost almost $700,000 to build and home ownership in Colorado is at it's lowest ever, with something like 65% of the population now renting. I don't think it's low wages, local Walmart offering $14/hr for p/t,( still not enough to get by) and I turned down a trucking job, 8hr. run, 1 load of mail to Denver per night, $30/hr. with bene's, they literally can't find anyone to do that. I live in a govt. assisted apt for seniors, but could never live here, so yeah, this area is attracting all the millionaires from Cal. and Texas, and are paying CASH for these places, as an investment, and in a couple years will double their money, just like they did in Cal., and the little guy? Living in a van down by the river,,,

I'm trying to stay in my county but the prices are absurd. So I'm moving to the next county where I can buy bigger and brand new for the same price. Or less. There's no way in the world I'm paying these prices AND having to fix up. I just can't afford a mortgage and repairs.

The only drawback is it's going to cost me more in gas to get to work. So it's really a wash either way.

The news did a story couple months back. 1 person needs to make $42.50 an hour to make rent. $40 an hour to buy a house. IIRC. And they had 1 guy who gave up his $1500 mortgage in exchange for $1600 rent. Because he wanted to be closer to where he works and hangs out for his social life. But there's no place to park his car.

I live in Tooele and prices have gone up in the last few years. What you could buy for $220 is now $350. The traffic used to be an hour from SLC during commute now it is 1.5 to 2.

Tooele is growing. :( Now people even know how to pronounce our name.

Better head west to Skull Valley. Get in out there before it’s the next hot spot. Lol.

What the ex wife and I bought in Missoula for $200 is now $260. Rent is insane there too. When I lived there again in 17 and part of 18 I took in a roommate just to ease the burden a little.

Yeah, prices going up everywhere, but in Nevada there's some real good deals here if you shop around and are patient. Two beautiful condo's in an upper middle income area recently sold for well under $100K due to bank repo. They're both in Henderson and about 15 minute drive to the Las Vegas Strip. If I remember correctly, one went for $60K and the other for $80K. Super nice neighborhood too, no homeless or gang bangers roaming around. There's also www.rentown.net that fits some peoples needs or wants.
If people are flexible there's ways to get things done.
Most people can make it happen and especially a single person with no dependents.
Use these 3 websites together and most can fulfill their current needs.

www.usaa.com is excellent for financing if you're a military veteran or family member of a military veteran.
