Normally, I lurk. This comment had to be answered. I've been around a while. What I've found is that there is room for as high up as you want to go. The only limitation is what you are willing to do. To have to temporarily do some distasteful things to achieve a goal is normal.

In any job I've had I've found the competition isn't that stiff. It doesn't take that much effort to outperform coworkers. Same in owning a business. If you want to succeed figure it out, get educated about your field of interest and then out perform the competition. All this is greatly simplified.

The truth about being at the top of something is that you dont start there.

Man, you totally preached to the choir. The reality is, you can educate yourself and work hard all you want, it does not guarantee you'll be at the top. I tend to think an element of luck has to be combined with hard work and education. It isn't much room up there. It's not that many 6 figure driving jobs in existence. It's not going to be enough loads for all OTR drivers to get 3000 plus per week. Yes, you do have to start at the bottom. That is what the whole purpose of me making that comment was.

I agree. However, the distinction I should have made is that you will never succeed working for some one else in this business.

    New-to-the-game Thanks this.

I dont know if I agree with that. Maybe you individually won't but there are plenty of CDL holders that are company drivers that are successful. We are talking about a very subjective word here.

True you have to start at the bottom in any occupation. Problem is the bottom in trucking is so pathetically low its not even worth slogging it out.
