From the guy's I know at UPS Parcel and Freight the union thing seems to be pretty smooth there from what they say. Pretty sure road pay will be well over .60 per mile by the end of the contract, over $26 per hour also. Con-way is known for great pay and that blows my check out of the water.

thanks guys.I Know my dad drove 38 years.I appreciate the help.

it really is the perfect place to be for me right now
right now im still classified as a dockworker so i only make $10.50 an hour, $11 when i jockey
but the best thing is that there is no waiting list, its not like roadway where theres 20 guys on the dock with CDLs waiting to go full time
im the only one there whos not already a driver with a CDL, so im next, and after i turn 21 they cant hire off the street before they make me full time
contract ends in 2013 and road drivers will make about 67 cents a mile, all time spent breaking down and hooking up sets you are paid the city driver wage which is well over $20 an hour
i cant wait to start making the real money -
Just be cautious of what you do in your free time. Most of your buddies when you're about 23 don't have the responsibility you will and the things they do you cannot. I was smart enough to stay away from drinking and driving. By all means enjoy the money and the life you can live with it but be cautious of your buddies and the chica's. Maybe it was dumb luck and good parents but I managed to stay out of trouble.
Good luck dude, you got trucking by the balls at 20 years old.Freebird135 Thanks this. -
and i would never do anything to jepordize it...i quit drinking and smoking in high school, i really just want to make a good living -
That depends. I know a driver with USF Holland been there since 80 something now doesn't know if they will exist much longer...jakebrake12 Thanks this. -

yea theres always that chance, im glad i got out of Roadway, thats where i worked right after high school
kinda applied to UPS Freight on a whim, my dad was a DHL driver and right before the whole DHL thing went down and he was barely hanging on to his job, he ran into a few UPS Freight guys at one of his stops
he talked to them and they said business is good....my dad has been driving so long he had a chauffers license back when they created the CDL, im sure some of u on here had the same thing, so he applied and told me i should apply so i did
they called me but never called him.....he was a truck driver for about 15 years and a DHL driver for the last 13, knows this city and the cities around here like the back of his hand but they hired me and not him -
I am going to call UPS monday.
