    To be honest.
We used to have a very large group of highly experienced guys in this place that would get into a conversation over just about every topic posted. It was like sitting in the shop listening to the old hands that "been there and done that" share war stories. Some arguing and bickering would inevitability happen. But you generally got the right answer, or the right questions to ask and answer it yourself.
When guys got pissed off (or on) and left this place it hurt the collective knowledge of us all.

    Is Rampant a decent trailer?
I have no idea. Never seen or pulled one. And I sure ain't going to give advice one way or the other to a guy trying to make a very large financial investment.................

I'm sorta in the same boat trying to decide on a skid steer at the moment. Talking with guys on certain models, week points, known problems, ECT... It never fails you got to sort through 90% bull crap to find the guys that know wtf they are talking about.

Thank you old iron. I’m new here so I don’t want to get off on the wrong foot so to speak. I have seen a few of the rampant trailers around. But haven’t had the chance to speak to the owners. I thought maybe I would stumble across a few here. I know some manufacturers are better than others and you get what you pay for. But with a family, price is always a factor. I also looked at the Kaufman 40 ton as well. I liked them both. They seem like they would be good trailers for the kind of work I’ll be doing with either. So I’ll keep searching, I’m in no hurry I have a couple months to decide. I like to research things far ahead so I know what I’m getting into. I’ve gotten lots of great information from here in the past. A large majority of the loads I’ll be using the trailer for are under 50000 pounds. So I would think a 40 ton trailer would work fine. For me it’s not so much for the weight as it is the height.

If you arent looking to get heavy, why not look at 35 ton? Do you want hydraulic or mechanical?
Some of the 35 ton trailer can get down to 12-18" loaded deck height. Most 40-55T will be around 20-24". That 6-12" can be the difference in permits or not.
Dont worry about asking too many or "stupid" questions. I've been doing the same and 90% of the guys here are happy to help.

It’s funny you say that. I actually liked the 35 ton the best. But most people I’ve talked to said the 40 ton was better for resale. The 40 ton comes ready for a flip. Most 35’s I’ve found didn’t. I trade trailers every five years for tax purposes so I always look for something that holds value for resale later down the road. I won’t need the flip. But the next guy might. I’m really leaning towards the hydraulic. I know it adds a little weight and maintenance. But I think it would be worth it in the long run of adjustability. If money wasn’t a factor I really liked the xl mini deck. For exactly what you said. That low deck height. But I’m just trying to get into this market so I don’t what to get in over my head. I’m also not opposed to another brand trailer. I’m just trying to explore all my options. There are so many brands out there, and every one says there the best on the market. It’s honestly confusing try to wade through.

Well you are right, the next guy will want more capacity. With my search I originally thought I should buy a 55T to grow into. But I soon realised exactly how much growing i would have to do to ever hit 55T in just load weight.
Unless you have a 20k steer and a 3 drive axles, I dont think its possible to do 55 just on the trailer without adding jeeps and boosters.
My thinking is right along with yours. Hydraulic gives better adaptability to navigate driveways and RR crossings.
That "Mini-Deck" is exactly what I was thinking of for you. From what I've been told the cheaper trailers dont hold value too well. Look at 2012-2014 models.
I just happened to have a good friend reccomend a place. So I called about a new trailer, that ended up being way out of my range. However they called me back and said they had a 2018 being traded in that was.

Hey that’s a great idea. I hadn’t thought about calling Dealers to see what may be traded in soon on new equipment.

I also wondered about holding any value on a off brand trailer. When I call the dealers I’ll ask about trade in value on the off brand models. Cheaper now new may be a total wash out in five years. Thanks for the info.

Good luck with working a deal on the 2018. I hope it works out for you.

Forgot to mention. Dont put everything on resale. At the end of 5 years you trailer should owe you nothing. A quality trailer should last you 10+ years before trading. Kinda have to think about it differently than vans and even steps/flats. You are entering a truly specialized market. That was told to me and really helped.
