Did I miss this before? Probably. The gap on the shoes relative to the drum was acceptable so I didnt look further. Lesson learned.1951 ford, Slowpoke KW, tony97905 and 4 others Thank this. -

The more I think about it the more I believe the park brake spring is busted in those 2 cans. That's the only explanation I have as to why there is no resistance to inward movement of the pushrod when I adjust the brakes. The adjuster tightens all the way till it stops and the shoes are still not touching the drums. I cannot move the s cam/adjuster with my pry bar either. I can move the s cam with a pipe wrench though so I don't think they are binding/seized.
I guess the only other thing I could check is to set the brakes and see if the rod still moves easily.
I'm under the impression that it shouldn't move freely with the spring pushing against it. Brakes released or not.Tall Mike, PoleCrusher and 1951 ford Thank this. -
There should be nothing to resist inward movement of the pushrod. Your brakes are released, right? That park spring is taken completely out of the equation. My guess is either the light return spring in the service pot is busted or the cam is sticking/binding.
